Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home definitely took Peter Parker to some dark places, but it sounds like those previous movies are going to pale in comparison to what we see this December.
Spider-Man: No Way Home will pit the wall-crawler against Doctor Octopus, Green Goblin, Electro, Sandman, and The Lizard, so it's no great surprise Tom Holland says this threequel will move away from the lighter tone of its predecessors. "What people will be really surprised about is that it’s not fun, this film," the actor tells Games Radar. "It’s dark and it’s sad, and it’s going to be really affecting."
"You’re going to see characters that you love go through things that you would never wish for them to go through. And I was just really excited to kind of lean into that side of Peter Parker."
"Peter Parker is always someone who’s looking up," Holland continues. "He’s always really positive. He’s always like, 'I can fix this. I can do this.' Whereas in this film, he feels like he’s met his match. He’s like, 'I don’t know what to do.' That was an aspect of the character that I’d never seen before, and I was really, really excited to try to tackle."
You have to believe those five villains prove to be more than a match for Spidey, though we're still hoping the hero will get a little help thanks to some familiar (webbed) faces.
Regardless, the Spider-Man: No Way Home star went on to say he's confident in what this movie delivers."I haven’t seen the film yet but I’ve seen pieces of the film, and it’s the best work we’ve ever done. It’s the best Spider-Man film that we’ve ever made. I really don’t think fans are at all ready for what they’ve put together. I know that I’m not ready, and I know that it’s going to be brutal."
Could it be that not everyone will make it out alive? With Norman Osborn and Doc Ock taking aim at the web-slinger in this movie, it's hard not to be concerned for the safety of Aunt May, MJ, and Ned! Heck, perhaps even Peter himself won't be able to make it out of this battle unscathed?
Spider-Man: No Way Home is set to swing into theaters on December 17.
