During its fifth weekend of release, Spider-Man: No Way Home managed to swing past the $900 million mark at the international box office for a running total of $926.3 million. The threequel earned an additional $33.4 million overseas this weekend, and its worldwide total now sits at $1.625 billion.
Once again, it's worth reiterating that the movie achieved this feat without China. However, Latin America has been kind to the wall-crawler because Spider-Man: No Way Home is now the highest-grossing movie of all time in Mexico! Another interesting stat is the fact the blockbuster has earned over $100 million on IMAX screens, making it only the 11th movie in history to hit that benchmark.
It's not all about Spider-Man, though, because Scream has so far grossed $48.6 million worldwide. That's not a bad start, and is actually 57% more than Halloween Kills and 23% above Scream 4.
Marvel Studios might have been frozen out of the Middle Kingdom this year, but The Matrix Resurrections did arrive in China this weekend. While it debuted at #1, it appears piracy has really hurt Lana Wachowski's latest movie because it grossed a lowly $7.5 million. It's likely to only earn around $15 million in the country, and with a global $140 million to date, don't bank on a sequel happening.
How much higher Spider-Man: No Way Home goes is likely to be dependant on a lot of different factors, but Sony Pictures has to be overjoyed after seeing numbers like these in the "pandemic era."
