SPIDER-MAN Star Kirsten Dunst Reiterates Interest In Playing An "Old Girl" Mary Jane Watson Down The Line

Kirsten Dunst played Mary Jane Watson in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy, and remains an iconic superhero movie love interest. With rumours continuing to swirl that Tobey Maguire will return as Peter Parker in Spider-Man: No Way Home, the hope among fans is that we'll get a glimpse into his personal life and see whether the original silver screen wall-crawler got his happy ending with MJ.

That would require a cameo appearance from Dunst, and while she's previously denied being part of the Marvel Studios threequel, the actress isn't against revisiting this role.

"It seems like a lot of movies I do get remade," Dunst told Entertainment Weekly. "It's like a running theme for me." That's a reference not only to the Spider-Man franchise, but the likes of Jumanji, Little Women, and Interview with the Vampire, all movies Dunst was in the original iterations of.

Reflecting on her "crazy" Spider-Man experience, Dunst says the filmmakers "flew to Germany to audition me" after Maguire suggested she should play MJ. As for a possible future in the role, she added: "I wish they'd put me in another one," the actress admitted. "Like, old-girl Mary Jane...why not? I would do [another superhero movie]. Everybody else is!"

Dunst is clearly enthusiastic about the genre and potentially even returning as MJ, so now we just have to hope she's either already shot a secret Spider-Man: No Way Home cameo or Spider-Man 4 could one day happen. If Maguire really is back, that might be a possibility, but there are plenty of other characters we're sure she could bring to life in the Marvel or DC Universes.

Spider-Man: No Way Home arrives in U.S. on December 17 and in the UK on December 15.
