RUMOR: Working Title Of SPIDER-MAN Reboot Is SPIDER-MAN: THE NEW AVENGER

We previously heard that the Spider-Man reboot would be called Spectacular Spider-Man, but it sounds like Marvel Studios are going in a very different direction with the title Spider-Man: The New Avenger. It's strictly a rumour for now, but hit the jump for details...

Spider-Man: The New Avenger? According to Umberto Gonzales (who is no longer part of Latino-Review and is instead creating his own site), that might be the title of Marvel's Spider-Man reboot.

It's strictly a rumour for now, and chances are that those previous reports about the movie being called Spectacular Spider-Man were correct. However, Spider-Man: The New Avenger works a lot better, especially as it will make it clear to regular moviegoers that this version of the wall-crawler exists in the same world as The Avengers, and not the one created by The Amazing Spider-Man movies. Kevin Feige will want to do everything possible to distance this franchise from that one.

This title would also confirm that Spidey will be a member of the team which rumour has it will be led by Doctor Strange in the Marvel Cinematic Universe following the events of Captain America: Civil War. What do you guys think about Spider-Man: The New Avenger? Sound off below!

SPIDER-MAN: THE NEW AVENGER

And people thought Dawn of Justice or The First Avenger were bad......

Over 50 years of Spidey material, first MCU film "The New Avenger".

It better stay as the working title. The Spectacular Spider-Man or GTFO!

WORKING TITLE. Won't be the actual film. Let's see: Th Incredible Hulk, The First Avenger, The Dark World, The Winter Soldier and Age of Ultron. Subtle, but gives a relatively good description of the films. It won't be like Dawn of Justice. Lord... Just keep it BvS.

On the nose there a little, just as bad as Dawn of Justice (although I've come to love that title now).

A minor problem I've had with the MCU so far is that the majority of (unnecessary) references to the larger universe are far from subtle, so I do have a problem with this potential title.

Considering Spider-Man will (by all indications) have a supporting role in CIVIL WAR and only be featured prominently outside of the solo-outing in INFINITY WARS, it seems like the opposite thought process of titling Cap's solo outing THE FIRST AVENGER, considering Spidey up until INFINITY WARS will not be a pivotal character.

It's a fine title, though makes me wonder whether maybe we'll see Peter being pulled up from street level crime to Avengers scale stuff.. IDK if just a Spidey villain really earns the title of the film.

Just remember Spidey's film will supposedly be about him trying to become an Avenger by training with Iron Man and fighting the Sinister Six.

Can't decide what is worse clickbait: El Mayimbe's obviously fabricated bullshit for follows, or CBM reporting on it. This site is in dire need of a dedicated rumors section so the word "News" can slowly regain its meaning.

Bleh.

Yeah, it's informative, and it's not THAT terrible, but I've been in favor of an "Amazing/Spectacular/Ultimate" name scheme for the Spider-Man films for years. Hell, I remember back when Sam Raimi was considering calling Spider-Man 2 "The Amazing Spider-Man" (which would have absolutely saved that titled from the embarrassment of being associated with the Marc Webb series), and I STILL think that was a missed opportunity.

Then again, the MCU seems to be all about subtitles at this point (they haven't used a single adjective in their titling since The Incredible Hulk)... so if they're trying to fit Spidey into that universe and they want to make a bold point that this ISN'T going to go like the last Spider-Man reboot... then I could see that working.

Guess we'll have to wait and see!

Lord no! Not only should Spider-Man not be an Avenger at all, but such a title would suggest that him being an Avenger is a main focus of the film. It should be a Spider-Man movie first and foremost, not a build-up to him joining The Avengers
