Sony Reportedly Developing Another SPIDER-MAN Spinoff As SILK Could Get A Solo Movie

Silk, a Korean-American superheroine with spider-powers, will reportedly headline another upcoming Spider-Man spinoff from Sony and Amy Pascal as the studio continues building a Spidey-less shared world.

Another spider-powered character will receive the spotlight on the silver-screen. Variety reports that a Silk film is in development from Sony Pictures and producer Amy Pascal.

Silk (real name Cindy Moon) first appeared in "The Amazing Spider-Man #1" in 2014. Created by Dan Slott and Humberto Ramos, Silk was bitten by the same radioactive spider as Peter Parker.

Silk boasts similar powers to Spider-Man. She produces organic webs from her fingers and possesses her own powerful Spider-Sense, called Silk Sense. Silk and Spidey's connection was initially romantic, but now allows both characters to track each other from anywhere.

Sony has not commented on the development of Silk. It remains unclear if Spider-Man will appear in the spinoff, or if it will connect to Sony's other planned spinoffs, but some relationship between Peter Parker and Cindy Moon seems likely.

@Beetleborg - The alter ego is Cindy Moon.

IF in 40-50 years all the lead CBM roles are going to Asian actresses, then we can do some race bending. But for now, let's let an Asian actress lead a mainstream movie about an Asian character, especially one that has nothing to do with Martial Arts. #LASTAIRBENDER

Never really knew much about Silk, but I've always dug her suit; would love to see it in live action. I don't know if she has any thing good to pull from the source material, but that wouldn't be much of a problem. These adaptations shouldn't be cover to cover copies of the comics. Get some good talent behind it and I'm all for it.

Apparently she was already a classmate of Peter’s in both Homecoming and Infinity War, played by Tiffany Espensen.

She’s not at all derivative.

@RolandD - Right, it's not like she was introduced following 2 Spider-Women and 3 Spider-Girl superheroes.

@ScionStorm - It’s like what DC did in the 50’s and 60’s with Super this and Bat that. A good thing can be overdone. Don’t get me started on Batman, Inc. Well to some extent the latter at least made sense since it was Wayne trying to extend his ability to fight crime rather than just another random Bat hero.

@ScionStorm - That being said, I am very cool with the diversity aspect. You can call me an SJW and I won’t take offense, but I also want originality.
