New Olivia Wilde Comments Regarding SPIDER-WOMAN Sparks Speculation That The Film Will Be In The MCU

No one really seems quite sure whether the myriad of Spider-Man spinoffs in development at Sony Pictures are set in the MCU, and the latest comments from Olivia Wilde further muddy the waters.

Olivia Wilde, a recent guest on the Shut Up Evan podcast, declined to say much about Spider-Woman, her most recently announced project at Sony Pictures. However, she did name drop Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, a possible indication that he's involved with the project.

The wording of Wilde's statement is leading some MCU fans to speculate that Feige is actually overseeing the film, and that Spider-Woman will be set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

When asked about Spider-Woman, Wilde replied, "All I can say is that is by far the most exciting thing that’s ever happened to me. Not only do I feel like I get to tell a story that…God, it’s like listen to me trying to avoid Kevin Feige’s pellet gun."

Does Marvel and Sony have a deal in place similar to the terms that allowed Tom Holland's Spider-Man to swing into the MCU? After all, there was a chance that the web-crawler could have left the MCU post Far From Home. Well before Wilde signed on to direct, there was a rumor back in March (just before the world went crazy due to COVID-19) that Feige was interested in bringing Jessica Drew into the MCU in much the same fashion that Peter Parker arrived.

You can listen to Wilde's appearance on the Shut Up Evan podcast below. While her comments are by no means confirmation, social media is already running with the idea, developing numerous ways that Spider-Woman could be introduced in the MCU.

Hm.,, that would be interesting.

If Feige’s involved, I have faith.

Not interested if this is just Sony left to their own devices though...

@PicolasCage -
I do believe that there is cooperation with all the Spideyverse to some extent and, if so, The Big F is certainly involved.

Doubt MCU would have interest in this character. At least right off the bat

@ThorArms - really? after watching them throw dumptrucks of money at Guardians of the Galaxy and The Eternals, you don't think they would have interest in Spider-Woman?

@tvor03 - yeah but those are owned by MCU entertainment. I can't see them striking a deal with Sony on this one specifically. Maybe if the first one is a huge hit

Awesome. Hope this is the case. Also, Viper/Madame Hydra for the villain.

I honestly think I’ll dig this movie more than the last Spider-Man movie. Weird.

@regularmovieguy - Olivia Wilde would be great for a Spider-Man movie too, honestly.

@regularmovieguy - the last one was HOT TRASH so it shouldn’t be hard haha

@BlackBeltJones - I really can't believe how much I disliked Far From Home on my second viewing.

@Kumkani - I can’t get through it again. I tried. Gyllenhaal makes it bearable because he is legitimately great in it. I would dead up just watch scenes that he’s in and that’s it.

@BlackBeltJones - It's the same for me, and I don't even think Mysterio is a good character. I think Gyllenhaal was just having too much fun with his role that he made it work.

To this day I still think some people unfairly treated Homecoming and it's a great film but Far From Home is just weird.

@Kumkani

Homecoming is awesome. I still prefer Raimi’s first two Spider-Man movies but Homecoming isn’t far behind the first movie imo.

Wonder if Feige has just accepted the way things are and is willing to work with Sony in incorporating their Spider-Man stuff into the MCU.

I’ve come to terms that Sony-verse is happening adjacent to main MCU. So the only 2 things I’m really hoping for are
1. The characters get small introductions in other movies that make sense for them, like madame web in multiverse of madness or kraven in FFH sequel or Jessica drew in black widow/falcon and WS. I really hate if Sony shoehorned someone that doesn’t make sense into venom or morbius. Like so far Keaton vulture in the Leto-verse is just pushing it.

2. Sarah Haley Finn gets to do the casting for them this point forward

@JFerguson - Morbius can connect to Blade.

@MARVELFAN1995 - yes! Totally forgot that one. There was a great piece of fan art with Mahershala blade and spidey vs morbius and venom
