Harry As The Green Goblin, My Thoughts

Harry As The Green Goblin, My Thoughts

Here are some reasons I think Harry being gobie in The Amazing Spiderman 2 is good for the franchise.

Editorial Opinion

Alright so I'm sure by now everyone has seen the trailer for The Amazing Spiderman 2. By the looks of it it will be Harry donning the glider this time around. And I'm perfectly fine with this and here's why.

1.) We've already seen Norman Osborne as Green Goblin in the original series played by Willem Defoe. Who did a great job in my opinion. So why not embrace something new give his son who would do anything for his dying father a chance.

2.) Sony will not make the same mistake twice. I mean look at the competition these days with Marvel Studios, DC/Warner Bros., and Fox. With Fox being the weakest link for now. They really have to step up their game if the plan on even competing with any of them. That's why I have faith in them. They know it's their last chance so why would they risk making a movie that will flop terribly?

3.) Spiderman is one of Marvels biggest properties. And Green Goblin is his greatest adversary. He's basically Spidermans version of the Joker. Me and everyone else can already tell Norman will take up the mantle in future installments. I personally don't care if monster goblin or deranged flying around throwing pumpkin bombs goblin. As long as the story's good and they don't make previous mistakes and I hope they don't.

4.) Dane Dehaan has proved that he can play a villain. I don't know about you guys but just some of the looks he gives Peter in the trailer look menacing. Like he's already messed up in the head. I will admit the way the make him look is a bit of an odd choice. But I think it will be one of thos it has to grow on you type things. I honestly think he'll be a great Goblin .

So I guess we'll have to wait and see. But for now let's give it a shot.
Tell me your guys opinions below in the comments.

Weird. Dramatic. Sentence breaks. Also, I always assume any editorial with a title that references the writer ("my thoughts", "why I such and such") will be lackluster. Dafoe, proven, etc.

Eh...it's been a hard week at work. I needed several beers tonight. Apologies.

Right, sentence fragments.

"We've already seen Norman Osborne as Green Goblin in the original series played by Willem Defoe. Who did a great job in my opinion."

'Who did a great job in my opinion', is a fragment. I imagine you're typing it out exactly as you were thinking it, which is incredibly common in this age of twitter, facebook, texting etc. 'With Fox being the weakest link for now' is another. For me anyway, it's like the reading equivalent of being driven by someone who doesn't know how to drive stick shift.

I actually know nothing about Dehaan, aside from the ASM2 trailer. I never saw Chronicle, or anything else he may have appeared in. He looks good and creepy in this though. I always try, usually successfully, to separate myself from the source material when I see adaptations, but for some reason I have a bit of an issue with Harry getting goblined up first. I think the only other time I felt this way was actually Dr. Doom in the Fantastic Four movie. Just one of those things where I enjoyed the comic version so much that I would have liked a more literal translation, but in the end I didn't get all up in arms about it.

So, I can accept this, especially if, like you said, the story is good etc etc. Yeah, if I get sucked into the plot and characters, I won't really care about changes. That's been true about all the other CBMs I've enjoyed, and I'm quite a sucker for most of them. Dr. Doom in the FF movie is just a weak villain, so that's probably why I still wish he'd been more like the comic.

Also, for the record, I agree that Dafoe was great, but he was great for that style of Spider-Man. I've said plenty of times that the Raimi films are too campy for my taste, and the Green Goblin is easily the campiest aspect of them. If Harry is menacing and even a bit scary, that'll be cool. I'll still look forward to Norman though.

Harry's death/near death by spiderman after the whole Gwen dies thing will drive Norman crazy, Norman will want vengeance and he'll do anything he can to get back at spider man for what he did.

Plus gorgonzola cheese mm.. Mm.. Mm

Interesting theory and good write up.
I'm looking forward to seeing The Goblin in TASM 2.
I'm curious as to what Norman's Goblin will be like hopefully it'll be the Ultimates route.
