How Suddenly and Why Did Gwen Stacy Die so Soon in Amazing Spider-Man 2?

After watching Amazing Spider- Man 2, Peter's girlfriend Gwen Stacy did die like she did in the comics but in the film who besides Harry for murdering her in the clock tower in Electro's power grid and for Spider - Man's web strings not being able to save her from hitting the floor than Gwen Stacy being stubborn, hot headed and defiant herself?

Surely after she and Peter ultimately decided to be together and go to Oxford and before helping Spider-Man defeat Electro and before getting killed by Harry Osborn as director Marc Webb's chosen cinematic Green Goblin, Gwen had a choice that would have ensured that she would still be alive when Spidey webbed her hand to a police car, but she refused to stay put and got herself into the crossfire of Spider-Man's battles with Electro and Green Goblin and she was completely in over her head not listening to Peter as well as telling him not to make her decisions for her, even though it was worth helping Spidey successfully defeating Electro and restoring power to the city just before the Airplanes in the sky were about to crash into each other.

So now she's dead and that is what she got for disobeying Peter's suggestion of not getting involved.

Surely the reason Harry murdered Gwen was when he deduced Spider-Man as Peter Parker over him being with Gwen alone in the grid with no one else around, and because of  his desperation on finding a cure to his disease as well as Spider-Man not giving him his blood drove him completely insane, he felt betrayed and wanted Peter to understand how it feels for hope to be taken away so dearly.

Clearly Peter couldn't risk giving him his blood even though nothing has happened yet because he wasn't sure if it was truely safe since the Lizard events in the Amazing Spider-Man 1. But surely Peter himself didn't know what Harry would do or how he would react after rejecting the blood transfer.

Well now it would seem the real reason why Marc Webb denied Mary Jane from appearing in the film and wanted Gwen to be seen killed off was all just to show how you can't always have a safe and perfect life when being a hero and an average citizen. But between you and me, I'm glad she's dead and done because of lame it is to have the name of an actress playing a not super power girlfriend put inbetween the names of the two actors playing the hero and the villain of the movie and because of Emma Stone's version of the character being stubborn, arrogant, hot headed, and completely disobeying Spider-Man's suggeting to get out of a dangerous area and not get involved in his fights, she's been a pain in the ass if you know what I mean.

But even though Gwen's death was really really sad, the movie ended okay because of Peter coming back as Spider Man to take down the Rhino.

Hopefully Mary Jane will be smart to listen to Peter once she learns he's Spider-Man and not end up like Gwen and Black Cat will be a more reliable help of a love interest to Spider-Man as well.

If only Spidey knew how to keep his woman in check, Gwen would still be alive. (I'm being sarcastic, put down the pitchforks)

Well I agree with you in the arguments that she shouldn't disobey Peter, but take in count that after her Father's death the only way to feel she was with him is with Peter because both made dangerous things and both could get killed in any moment, so I think the script suggests us that Gwen was trying to protect him even though she is only a weakness, but I found pretty nice the stroyline of Gwen,

I really enjoyed this movie. My favorite of all the spider man films. It felt like Spidey more than any of the other ones imo. He was the only real source of the comedy. The other characters were serious for the most part. Electro tried to make a joke, and I think it was meant to come off cheesy and not be funny. Cause Max wanted to be more like Spider man, but he's just not. He failed at humor and abandons it for the rest of the film. Until he played the itsy bitsy Spider song at the end. I actually got akick out of that. I was nervous about the Goblin, but damn, he played him so creepy I loved it. The hair was bad, but it would of made less sense for him to stop and style his hair after the transformation. I enjoyed the Rhino. I do agree with the point about her showing up in the cop car. That may be the only thing I can think of that I didn't like. This was an introduction to three villains, the untold story of Peters parents, and Peter learning the consequences of his decisions all wrapped up very nicely. To be honest, before Gwen showed up to help Peter, how was she supposed to know it would just be a button? She herself probably thought there would be more to it than that. I thought that was funny.

This is a terribly written article and really pointless.

Gwen wanting to help doesn't make her a bad person. Her intellect rivals that of Peter and she did help out, without her he would be toast in the movie.

"and Gwen Stacy completely disobeying Spider-Man's suggesting to get out of a dangerous area,"

PETER: "Gwen, stay right there."

(Gwen stands just a few feet behind Green Goblin because Peter told her to)

(As a result Harry is given enough time to piece together Spider-man's secret identity when he would've completely ignored her had she run away and hidden somewhere)

HARRY: "You don't give people hope you take it away! Now I'm gonna take yours."

PETER: "NO! GWEN! RUN!"

(Gwen unfreezes and tries to run away but the Goblin snatches her up)

@gliderman I agree with the symbiote thing, but I can't wrap my mind around why they made Richard Parker's secret Spider-Venom, rather than the Venom symbiote.

As overstuffed as this movie was, it wouldn't have hurt for Spiderman to use it as a last resort when going up against Green Goblin, at least that would explain how he beat him so easily.

Even though Gwen didn't listen to Pete she still saved countless lives by stopping the plane crash.

One life isn't worth sacrificing about 60.

I think the reason Webb decided to kill of Gwen was because of Emma Stone's relationship with Andrew Garfield off-screen. Since they are dating in real life, they have great chemistry on-screen. But if/when they break up all of that chemistry will be gone and playing an on-screen relationship would be a mess. With Gwen dead, if Stone and Garfield break up, we'll be spared of seeing them awkwardly pretend to be together again.

@BlueLantern

No I don't think it's that, I really think it's just because they wanted to shake things up for Peter. Also, since Garfield was initially thought to be only signed on for a trilogy and Webb too, they wanted to have both Gwen and MJ in that trilogy. I thought it was good that they killed her off, it follows the comics, it's definitely memorable, it certainly will shake things off and it takes balls. It just shows that no matter how big of a star you know (or as likeable) like Emma Stone, the characters aren't invincible.

I also liked that for once Spidey kept his mask on during every battle, and that every villain wasnt tied to Peter Parker personally. Electro was upset with Oscorp and Spidey. Rhino just hates Spidey. They dont know who Peter Parker is.

@wyleejay- bravo sir, perfect summation of TASM2 in my opinion as well. It was a fun and surprisingly emotional kickass film. I actually loved the ending, the whole movie felt like a comic book. The weirdo scientist guy, the ludacris, little motivated electro, the creepy Green Goblin(loved hearing the distant laugh as he rode the glider!!!!). Plus the best looking accurate to comic Spiderman we could ask for. Costume, web shooters, quips...

@ Predatorrising, seriously, stop writing articles. Please.

Oh, and Gwen died for one main reason. To appease whiny fanboys by following the source material. They should've ignored the source material and let her live.

@BenjiWest. A damn good CBM. I want to watch the two films back to back. They continued the story excellently. In my opinion, in the next movie, we should only be introduced to MJ. Let Peter be too scared to get close to someone. Let Peter be miserable. Lonely. Let Spider man be his escape from his problems. Yet it would only bring new problems. Thats what Spider mans all about.
