Mark Webb On THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2, Easter Eggs, And SINISTER SIX

We know Marc Webb is signed on to direct The Amazing Spider-Man 3, but in this interview, the director discussed how much involvement he expects to have with the movie, and talks about in second installment of the series which will hit US theaters at midnight.

"Spider-Man is very confident at being Spider-Man," says The Amazing Spider-Man 2 director Marc Webb. With the movie going into its third week at the Box Office internationally, the movie is just preparing to open this weekend in the US. In this interview, Webb discusses the story he was aiming to tell with this movie. "He is embracing his virtuosity. He thinks he can have it all, and he can’t. I wanted to challenge him and throw everything I possibly could at him to challenge those assumptions. And really, the relationship between Peter and Gwen became a really important component of the film and, as much as anything, is about time and the nature of time and valuing the time you have with the ones you love. And that’s a theme that I wanted to explore and cut into the film in different ways and through as many different character’s eyes as I possibly could do that with." A bunch of fans spotted Easter Eggs such as Doc Ock's mechanical arms and Vultures wings in the trailers, and Webb was asked if there were a few other Easter Eggs in the movie that may require a little bit more attention. "There’s little hints and teases, certainly," he says, "and some of those storylines and characters we’ll pick up and some of them we won’t. We just wanted to make the universe as rich with references to the comics we know and love as possible."

A while back when Sony announced they would be moving forward with a Venom spin-off film along with plans to bring the Sinister Six together for their own adventure, many speculated who the directors will be. We finally found out not that long ago that Drew Goddard would be directing Sinister Six. When asked how involved he was with the movie, Webb says, "Well, it’s just beginning and I didn’t really do anything with this film, but, of course, this film will overlap with other films in a very specific way. I think we’re still figuring all that stuff out. In terms of my involvement, I’m kind of at their disposable [laughs], but we had discussions and showed the movie to those guys really early on so they could help integrate and have their worlds emerge from mine in an organic way. They’re great advisors in their own right. It’s fun to sit in a room and “spitball” with these guys who are huge comic book fans, but also really brilliant storytellers." Related to Sony's Spider-Man franchise, we also know that Marc Webb would be returning to direct 2016's The Amazing Spider-Man 3, but he won't be directing the fourth installment. So he was asked now that he will soon be done with Spidey, he would be interested in another Superhero. "I think it will be hard to be “married” to any other superhero, you know? Spider-Man was my first love. It would be really hard to do that." Have you gotten the chance to see The Amazing Spider-Man 2 yet? Be sure to check it out this weekend if you haven't!

"In “The Amazing Spider-Man™ 2,” for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can’t come quickly enough. Peter hasn’t forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen’s father to protect her by staying away – but that’s a promise he just can’t keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past. The film is directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci & Jeff Pinkner, with a previous draft by James Vanderbilt, and based on the Marvel Comic Book by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are the producers. The latest chapter in the Spider-Man story is set for release in 3D on May 2, 2014."

Starring Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane Watson, Jamie Foxx as Max Dillon/Electro, Sally Fields as Aunt May, Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn, and Paul Giamatti as Aleksei Sytsevich/The Rhino, you can check out Marc Webb's THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 when it hits US theaters May 2nd, 2014.

I dont get all this hate this movie is getting. i understand not loving it. This movie was so much fun. Garfield played the perfect Peter Parker. Gwen, Aunt May, Harry etc were awesome.
I think the reason all this hate exists is because of the mixed reviews this film is getting from the critics. But when did us general movie goers and fans start caring about critic reviews. Sure some movies just suck and you know it eg. Xmen orignis, X3, F4, Spidey3.
Oh well, I guess I still liked it and thats all.

last time I read a comic (yesterday) Spidey was a genius, not someone who doesn't know how electricity works and see youtube videos to repair things.
And he shouldn't be as confident as Peter than when he is Spiderman, that's a big part of the character, the feel of freedom with the mask on.

A lot of people hated the movie before the reviews were as bad as they are now.
And this new aunt May is NOT aunt May. Harry (an "emo") was lame just like Electro (exaggerated loser)

Just saw it, it went in my spam folder o_O Not sure if I can make an article out of that but that's a response to Joe's criticism's. Should be an Editorial, since I agreed some of his (Joe's) points, I can't make an article defending the movie xD

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is the first in the franchise to be considered rotten on rottentomatoes at 57% but, not going to stop me from seeing it Saturday. I've never missed on a Spider-Man movie in the theater. Judging by the trailers and reviews though, Rhino is only in cause of Sinister Six & Electro was a shitty villain. From the sounds of it, should've been a straight up dramatic Spider-Man story like the first Amazing Spider-Man with resolving Peter's parents death, his relationship with Gwen and have Harry be the villain. I think all of that in a good 2 hour movie with the big moment from the comics would've made it more well liked by audiences and critics.

We sitting here waiting for the movie to start (10 more minutes) it's extremely packed here especially for a Thursday night showing.

Spidey might pull 100 million over the weekend, I don't think reviews are going to stop ppl from seeing it
