Hey guys,
I'm doing an article to share some ideas I have about what Marvel could do with Spider-Man, and how the character could be used in other MCU movies. The article's a little long but its all good stuff, I promise.
*I updated the article to include some information about how I'd use Eddie Brock in the 1st film. This information is under the Characters section.*
Captain America: Civil War
The Suit
In every Spider-Man film, Peter creates an unrealistic awesome costume that no high school student is capable of making. My idea is, In Captain America: Civil War, instead of Tony giving Peter his Iron-Spider suit (like in the Civil War comic storyline), Tony should give Peter his first legit Spider-Man suit. Before he acquires a new suit, I think Peter should use a homemade costume similar to the ones used by Toby Maguire and Andrew Garfield in their first Spidey films.
The suit Stark builds him would look like Peter's classic suit from the comics and would includes technology Stark creates such as: web shooters, shoes that stick to the walls, ect. Maybe even a Spidey-Car (haha I'm kidding). Stark should give him the suit as a gift because he sees potential in the young hero, or to persuade him to join Stark's side in the "Civil War", either option works.
First Solo Film
Characters
I think that we should see the return of Mary Jane and Harry Osborn in High School. My idea is that Harry and Peter were best friends in elementary school, but as time passed Harry became more popular and Peter remained shy. Although they are still friends, it's hard for them to stay close because Harry's new group of friends party and Peter is now busy with responsibilities as Spider-Man.
I'm not sure if they should include Gwen Stacy in these new films. Emma Stone did a great job with the Peter/Gwen relationship, and I think that if they do a Gwen love story again, it would be boring because it was the same in the previous films. I would only want Gwen to show up if she makes Peter's love life complicated. Maybe he can't choose between her and Mary Jane, something like that would make his love life different from previous movies and interesting to see on screen.
I want to see the return of The Daily Bugle and J Jonah Jameson. I'd be very happy if JK Simmons came back, but I've also been thinking that Will Ferrell would do a great job as a new take on the character and provide a ton of comedy for the movie. Now that Spider-Man is connected to the MCU, I want to see the Bugle tackling stories about other heroes too. It'd be cool to see a news article about the Civil War as an easter egg. I think that the reason Peter should start working at the Bugle is to make money to support Aunt May now that his Uncle Ben is gone, and this is how the Daily Bugle should be incorporated into the movie.
A staff member that I think should appear apart of the Daily Bugle is Eddie Brock. They should introduce him as one of the Bugle's top reporters, and right from the start show the tension between him and Peter. The actor who plays Eddie should have a muscular build and look menacing, making him different from Topher Grace who wasn't scary at all. Brock should just be in a few memorable scenes, and save his real spotlight for a sequel when he becomes Venom. One scene could be Brock reporting for the Daily Bugle at a spot where Spider-Man had saved the day. I also think that all of Brock's articles and his viewpoint should be anti Spider-Man, which would foreshadow his hatred of the hero and Peter Parker in the future.
This film needs to introduce Jessica Drew, Spider-Woman, into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She plays a big role in Marvel comics and is bound to become apart of the movies eventually, so why not connect her to Peter, rather than have them be completely separate characters, for the most part, like they are in the comics.
A good way she can be introduced, which stays faithful to the comics:
She is an ex-Hydra agent turned good guy, a similar redemption story to Black Widow. Jessica works for SHIElD (or whatever the main government super-hero agency is after Civil War), and is assigned to watch over the newly discovered hero, Spider-Man, because he has "great power and great responsibility" and can't be trusted. She serves as Spider-Man's "Felicity" from Arrow or "Alfred" from the Batman franchise for majority of the film. At the climax of the movie, Jessica gains her powers, which will be explained below. I think that she should gain a costume in Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and become apart of the team then, and possibly even have her own spin-off film after, depending on the success of the character. I don't want the character to be used as Spider-Man's sidekick, kind of how Falcon was shown as a sidekick in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. She should Team-Up with Peter in the future rather than just be his back up.
Villains
I have gone through all of the possible Spider-Man villains and concluded on who I think should be apart of the first film.
As a supporting villain, I would choose The Vulture. I think that Spider-Man's scene with The Vulture should be similar to Captain America's scene with Batroc the Leaper in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. He would have just one fight at the start of the movie, and would have the possibility to return in a future Spider-Man movie (Sinister Six).
Plot for Vulture:
Sam Wilson (Falcon) and Adrian Toomes (Vulture) were both paratroopers in the US Armed Forces. Toomes was selling the EXO-7 FALCON suits to enemies of the United States for profit and was kicked out of the military. In present day, Toomes uses his own EXO-7 suit as a criminal for large scale heist operations and such.
In the movie, Falcon should either contact Spider-Man to stop Vulture or have a Team-Up with Spidey. This connects Spider-Man and his villains into the MCU which makes it different from other Spider-Man movies, and also can showcase an awesome fight scene between Falcon, Vulture, and Spider-Man. This can also set up Falcon and Vulture as sort of Arch-Enemies, which would give character development for both Wilson and Toomes.
Another enemy I would have in this movie would be The Kingpin. The character will be the main villain in the Daredevil Netflix series, but has large ties to Spider-Man as well. Up until now, Spider-Man couldn't be seen on screen with the Kingpin because of rights issues, but now that it's possible I think that Marvel should utilize using this character.
Another villain I would like to see is Scorpion, in a henchman type roll. The original story of Scorpion from the comics is J Jonah Jameson hires Mac Gargan (Scorpion) to capture/defeat Spider-Man. Now, no one wants to see JJJ that desperate in the movies that he hires a professional super villain to track down Spider-Man, that could ruin the character of Jameson completely. One thing that everyone loved about Sam Raimi's Spider-Man Trilogy is JK Simmons comedic Jameson, so if Marvel were to make the character crazy enough to hire the f[rick]ing Scorpion I think that Jameson would lose his lovable vibe.
Plot for The Kingpin and Scorpion:
The arrival of the new hero Spider-Man in New York City has hurt Wilson Fisk's (Kingpin's) business big time. After Spider-Man stops a major drug trade, Fisk has had enough and hires the mercenary Scorpion to protect his future trades and take care of Spider-Man. This is similar to the Ben Affleck Daredevil movie, where the Kingpin hires Bullseye to take care of Daredevil. Speaking of Daredevil, I think he should cameo or even have a small role in the movie if Kingpin is included. Seeing Peter Parker and Matt Murdock interact is another thing that the movie audience has never seen, and because the two have a history in the comics I think that Marvel should make it happen. Spider-Man defeats Scorpion after a cool fight scene and stops another drug trade, but the Kingpin is not captured because he should continue to have a role in the Daredevil Netflix series.
Something I thought about for Scorpion is that no reader is really a fan of him. Sure, his powers are cool, but he really has no motivation or reason for fans to love him. But what I'm trying to say is that because no one really cares about Mac Gargan, I think that Marvel could use Scorpia instead, and everyone would be cool with it. Scorpia is the female version of Scorpion in the comics. The more I thought of it, the more I liked the idea. I would rather see a sexy Scorpia attempt to sting Spider-Man rather than some rageful man. Also, we have yet to see a female Spider-Man villain. My final reason for having the female counterpart would be because it could lead to some funny comedy between Scorpia and Spider-Man and some interesting dialog between the teenager and the assassin.
I think that the final villain of the film, in the mastermind/behind the scenes villain type roll should be Norman Osborn. I know that Osborn has been way over used in the previous Sony movies, but with Spider-Man and all of the characters associated with him now apart of the MCU, Norman Osborn can play a bigger role like he has in the comics. The storyline I'm directly thinking of is Dark Reign, which I will get to in another article. I don't think that he should become the Green Goblin in the 1st film, just because it would become overcrowded with too many villains. I think that by the end of the 2nd film or during Sinister Six he should finally become the Green Goblin.
Plot for Norman Osborn:
Osborn is fascinated with Spider-Man and theorizes that he is somehow an Oscorp creation. I think that the opening credits of the film should show Peter in Oscorp on a field trip getting bitten by the spider, similar to how it showed the Hulk's origin in the opening credits of The Incredible Hulk. Oscorp had been working with genetically advanced spiders for years, and Norman grows obsessed with discovering who Spider-Man is and how he gained his powers, because he wants the powers for himself. Osborn believes that if he were to gain the spider powers, then he would become a heightened version of himself. This is a very similar plot to the Ultimate Spider-man comics.
Norman should have a good relationship with Peter, liking him more than his own son Harry, which was in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man films. This will make it shocking when Norman discovers Peter is Spider-Man, which will occur in the 2nd film.
Somehow Osborn discovers the relationship between Spider-Man and Jessica Drew, and kidnaps her to lure Spider-Man to his base. Norman fights Spider-Man with Oscorp weaponry. Some of Norman's weapons should foreshadow the Green Goblin. Examples of these weapons could be firearms, an energy rifle, bombs (foreshadow to pumpkin bombs), a gas gun, throwing blades, and of course a glider (foreshadow to the goblin glider).
During their fight, Norman accidently shoots his spider experiments in his base with his energy rifle and Jessica Drew is caught in the blast. This gives Jessica her spider powers, which are different from Spider-Man's. In the comics, Jessica Drew can shoot energy blasts from her hands, so Osborn's energy rifle can be used to show how she gains these powers, but still have spider powers because of Osborn's experiments. In the end, Osborn escapes, who is still desperate to find out who Spider-Man is. Peter rescues Jessica, who now has great powers and great responsibilities of her own, and both return the next year in...
Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and 2
Spider-Man should be apart of the Avengers team. This movie will heavily focus on space elements, so I think it is the perfect opportunity to introduce the symbiote suit here. Have the scene be similar to how Peter discovers the symbiote in the comics, in the Secret Wars mini-series. A fellow CBMer came up with the idea that Peter finds the symbiote in the Collectors museum, which I think is a great idea. Peter should only see the good side of having this suit during these movies, and it should only tease how evil the symbiote really is. For that tease, maybe Spider-Man loses control and goes crazy, slaughtering Chitauri in inhumane ways. Spider-Woman is the only one who sees, which starts her suspicions about the black suit.
Thank you for reading guys. I have many more ideas for Spider-Man, and I will include them in a Part 2 of the article. My second article will include the Spider-Man sequel, Sinister Six, Dark Reign in the MCU, Venom, and the final Spider-Man film. Thumbs Up and comment your thoughts and ideas below!
