Marc Webb will not be directing The Amazing Spider-Man 4. If you didn’t know that, it was making the press rounds a while ago. And I’m glad. Not because I hate what he’s done and can still do. But, after a while, directors run out of things to say on a property. Usually, I like directors to stick to two films on one property as it allows a new director to take over and allow some fresh direction. However, that sometimes becomes a disaster (see: X-Men 3) and it sometimes leaves the direction completely abandoned (see: Iron Man 3).
Trilogies are fresh starts though. And with Marc Webb tying up the parents plot thread, I wanted to see what Sony could do next. I think the next logical step is to pick up yet another plot thread that was left open in Peter’s life: Uncle Ben’s killer.
I know a lot of people were angered by the fact that Webb’s version of Peter Parker never ends up catching his uncle’s killer. I’d argue that it shows that Peter is fully embracing his responsibility and not acting under selfish measures to continue to go after Ben’s killer. Still, I think, given the opportunity, Peter would most certainly go after the guy who killed his uncle.
So, just a minor spoiler for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, there are time skips. Marc Webb said that when he was presenting the 35 minutes of footage to the press. Now, what he presented is irrelevant but the fact there are time skips shows that this universe is at least attempting to stay up to date with our own. That said, it allows Peter to grow up and it allows Garfield to keep playing the character, hopefully until The Amazing Spider-Man 6 is finished.

But I’m getting ahead of myself. By the time 2018 rolls around, Peter will be out of school. This could highlight the struggles (assuming they still exist) of people right out of college getting jobs. Peter would have to stick with his Daily Bugle job (which I think he’ll get in The Amazing Spider-Man 3). However, in come the Enforcers and Spider-Man ties them up. Peter finds out at the Bugle, the next day, that they were set free. Peter asks the question why and Robbie tells him it is because some crime lord always has bailed them out. While researching the Enforcers, Peter finds a member that looks familiar to someone he knows, the guy with the tattoo and sunglasses.

Peter realizes this crime ring is what led to his uncle’s death and goes to find the Enforcers. Peter uses them to track down Tombstone, the mob boss. However, Peter finds himself up against Electro, who Tombstone hired to protect him. Peter is brought down by the combined might of Electro and the Enforcers along with Tombstone himself. Peter manages to escape and goes back to life as usual, whatever that means, trying to come up with a plan.
OsCorp, on the other hand, has gotten back up and running under the leadership of the alter-ego of Tombstone. Tombstone begins building an arsenal of super-criminals to protect his empire against Spider-Man. The first completed project: Sandman. Peter has to take down the monster as he goes on a rampage through New York City. Peter manages to freeze him up using water and a building main AC power.
Tombstone enlists the help of a former employee, namely Rhino, to take part in yet another experiment: to make him into a fully bodied Rhino. Rhino and Electro are tasked by Tombstone to take out Spider-Man and Spider-Man manages to use Rhino, upon his defeat, to prove that OsCorp is once again using its corporate powers to destroy the city.
Tombstone is arrested and Peter emerges victorious, except he didn’t find his uncle’s killer. His uncle’s killer’s name is discovered when Peter looks it up again: Cletus Kasady.
