Like most of the movies set in the DC Films Universe, Suicide Squad underwent significant reshoots but perhaps the biggest change came when The Joker's role was changed to make his relationship with Harley Quinn a little less sinister and abusive.
As a result, the Clown Prince of Crime's role in the final act was totally transformed and we were all left to wonder why he appeared in the trailer with ash all over his face and dropping a grenade in what appeared to be some sort of altercation with Task Force X.
Well, in an unprecedented move, director David Ayer has taken to Twitter to reveal what the original plan for The Joker was and it's clear that the villain wasn't originally going to end the movie by reuniting with Harley after breaking her out of jail (to set up Gotham City Sirens).
"After Joker dropped [Harley Quinn] from the [helicopter] and crashed, Enchantress made a deal with him,” Ayer said on Twitter. “He was going to take Harley home and be “King of Gotham”. Harley stood up to him and refused to betray her new friends. The Squad turned on him and he escaped."
