UPDATE:

Reddit user oldcomicbookfan has reached out to me through Twitter and through a direct message provided me with the following:

ORIGINAL ARTICLE:

A reddit user has posted about potential spoilers regarding the upcoming, Suicide Squad. In the post, the user explains that he's part of a focus test. Focus tests generally focus on finding out what audience members may like, and dislike about your film. In his post the user, named oldcomicbookfan says:

OK so I apologize if I don't do this right, this is my 1st time on reddit and my first time posting. The reason I'm posting is because I spent a good hour over at Warner Brothers with a few people; and they did a focus test group regarding the upcoming film: Suicide Squad.

They made this apparent from the focus test, but a few of these things were set in stone, others were still a work in progress.

This is not uncommon for a movie being focus tested. The filmmakers are still ironing out parts of the script. the user continues,

First thing they did was quiz us on our knowledge on the Suicide Squad; there were a lot of questions about our knowledge on the new 52 Suicide Squad and particularly Harley Quinn. From general conversations, it sounds like Harley Quinn may be the protagonist of the movie.

Harley Quinn as the protagonist? Certainly interesting! Especially with her ties to The Joker who's confirmed to be in this movie.

The director of the movie joined us; he asked whether any of us had watched Speed. He said that that blend of action with a time sensitive conflict was what inspired the plot of Suicide Squad.

The director asked what we enjoyed more in an action movie, a serious action movie like The Raid or a more comedic approach like in the Jump Street movies.

It's interesting that this late in the game that the screenwriters and David Ayer haven't come up with a tone for the movie yet. This may not be troubling, but it's usually something set early on. The user continues,

Near the end, we were broken into groups of three (there were 9 of us total) and given a one page summary of the plot, we were asked to describe what we liked and didn't like.

What we were given mentioned Harley Quinn being needed to decipher a complex series of bombs planted throughout Gotham. Harley is estranged from The Joker, and her knowledge is being used to figure out where The Joker has placed the bombs. Deathstroke is a Amanda Waller's personal bodyguard, and he's placed in the squad to oversee that they do not deviate from the mission perimeters. The plot then becomes more complex as The Joker has a far more complex goal in mind.

I'm paraphrasing what the other plots were, but they all deviated slightly. Some had Harley as being a part of the squad, but betraying them for The Joker. The other involved a conspiracy from Lex Luthor which involves working with The Joker.

My final impressions are positive. Before we left the director showed us concept art. Some were ok. The boomerang guy and the witch girl were not that great. I really liked Deathstrokes design, they really gave him this realistic but tech-geared look that is probably the best design I've ever seen of Deathstroke.

Very interesting, despite everything said though, the user had this to say about the movie's upcoming release.

Based on what I saw, I would love to go see this movie when it releases.

Obviously this is far from official, and it sounds like Warner Bros. still has a lot to figure out with this movie. For what it's worth, these ideas should have been ironed out by WB and David Ayer already. The fact that many of these things are still being worked on is troubling, if indeed this is true. Until this is either debunked or confirmed, do take this with a pinch of salt.

For all news Suicide Squad, keep reading CBM!

I really do hope Captain Boomerang looks terrible but in a good way. It is hard for me to describe it but I think people will understand.

There's another Reddit rumor about the movie being called "The S-Squad" ...you know, for the children.

But I don't post Reddit.

Harley (one of my favourite comicbook characters ever)? Deathstroke? Joker? All in one [frick]ing movie? And with this amazing cast? STOP it DC, you're going to [frick]ing kill me. Jesus Christ, I need this movie now.

Also, Slade Wilson has no reason to be in this movie. This man is way to smart to get involved with someone as dumb and manipulative as Amanda Waller. Check Teen Titans #2, his first appearance to see what I mean. Or even watch Arrow. Would that Slade join the SS? No, not at all. Not to mention, Slade is too good for this

Hopefully this rumor is true and Deathstroke will appear again in Batffleck solo film. But there is no way Deathstroke will be Waller's bodyguard.
I want to see that concept art of Deathstroke and the whole SS team!
aknightinarkham
aknightinarkham - 12/20/2014, 7:14 PM
This all sounds good to me. A lot like Assault on Arkham. The only thing I'm not so sure on is Deathstroke as Waller's body guard. Though on the other hand, it would establish him as a merc, instead of a stone cold baddie the way Arrow did it. Overall this sounds very pleasing.

There was also that rumor that Aiden Gillen would be Deathstroke. That would be interesting.

That said, they better not have Joker work with Luthor. Joker doesn't work with anybody, unless in some rare circumstance it ultimately benefits him, and Luthor is too smart to work with a whack job like Joker.
aknightinarkham
aknightinarkham - 12/20/2014, 7:16 PM
@daniellantern

That was my initial reaction too, but it would do a good job establishing Deathstroke as a mercenary, not a straight up bad guy.

Daniellantern - 12/20/2014, 7:19 PM
@DIAMONDZ Agreed! Wilkinson will make great and faithfull costume from the source material. But I heard Ayer already hired someone to make the costume.

I would rather they adapt Lemire's GA into 4 movies and have Brad Pitt as Robert Queen. If you haven't read it, we'd still get him as an archer.

If they asked me what tone the SS film should be: The answer is BOTH! I mean what's so complicated about this?

Its THE DIRTY DOZEN but for 2014. That oldie of criminals trapped in their own suicide mission had humor along with your action. And considering Harley Quinn and Joker are in this, that's alot of your humor.
SauronsBANE
SauronsBANE - 12/20/2014, 7:26 PM
The tone is definitely going to be the biggest key to this movie working. It's a little worrisome that they haven't managed to nail it down yet, but everything will be good as long as they eventually settle on the right tone. I like what I'm hearing though, and you can't argue with that cast.
ConMar14
ConMar14 - 12/20/2014, 7:27 PM
Manu Bennet is great but im sure they can find a better actor to play Deathstroke.
SauronsBANE
SauronsBANE - 12/20/2014, 7:29 PM
I can understand them having issues finding the exact right tone though. It's not quite as easy as just copying another movie and adding in some humor.

Here is a movie that, just on the conceptual level, is totally different from any other movie they're planning for their universe. They definitely want to make this gritty and grounded in reality and all that, but it's kind of hard to do that when you include someone like Harley Quinn.

They definitely have their hands full with this, but at least it seems like they're approaching this with an open mind.
aknightinarkham
aknightinarkham - 12/20/2014, 7:35 PM
@RRA

I don't think that's what they mean. They obviously know there should be comedy, because of Joker and Harley, but are we talking about a serious action movie with moments of comedy, or are we talking balls to the wall comedy like GOTG? And I think what they should be aiming for is moments of comedy.
Daniellantern
Daniellantern - 12/20/2014, 7:36 PM
@aknightinarkham Yup, Deathstroke as mercenary makes more sense. Aiden Gillen as Deathstroke? I can't see him to portray both Slade Wilson and Deathstroke. He is much more like Mad Hatter or anything else. Stephen Lang for Deathstroke. Yeah.
