James Gunn has taken to Twitter to give fans a first glimpse of McFarlane Toys' upcoming wave of action figures based on characters from The Suicide Squad. We assume more will be unveiled soon, but this first wave includes Harley Quinn, Bloodsport, Peacemaker, King Shark and Polka Dot Man.

We're not sure when these figures are expected to hit shelves and they're not available for pre-order just yet, but Todd McFarlane promised that updates are on the way on his official blog.

Gunn also shared a first look at some artwork from DC Comics' Suicide Squad issue #6, which features a new design for Bloodsport based on the costume Idris Elba dons in the movie.

"Welcome to hell — a.k.a. Bell Reve, the prison with the highest mortality rate in the US of A. Where the worst Super-Villains are kept and where they will do anything to get out — even join the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X. Today's do-or-die assignment? Assemble a collection of cons, including Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, Javelin, and everyone's favorite psycho, Harley Quinn. Then arm them heavily and drop them (literally) on the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese."
"Trekking through a jungle teeming with militant adversaries and guerrilla forces at every turn, the Squad is on a search-and- destroy mission with only Colonel Rick Flag on the ground to make them behave...and Amanda Waller’s government techies in their ears, tracking their every movement. And as always, one wrong move and they’re dead (whether at the hands of their opponents, a teammate, or Waller herself). If anyone’s laying down bets, the smart money is against them—all of them."

We recently found out that the movie was officially rated R for "strong violence and gore, language throughout, some sexual references, drug use and brief graphic nudity."

The Suicide Squad is set to premiere on HBO Max and in theaters on August 6.

@SonOfAGif - me too, but I loathe McFarlane Toys. Easy pass for me.

@GreedoSarducci - Why do you loathe McFarlane Toys?

@TheMapleSyrup - they're glorified statues. Terrible quality control, questionable paint apps and inconsistent articulation choices. Hasbro Marvel Legends blows them away at the same price point.

McFarlane hit the bullseye in the toy market on the early 90s. When Spawn first appeared as an action figure, he looked like a page right out of the comic. The models greatly improved in the following years. Say what you will about Todd's antics, but you cannot say he didn't have vision. Penny, penny.

A shark article above a shark article on the CBM homepage.

On the one year anniversary of the release of the 45th Anniversary Edition of Jaws on 4k UHD?!

Something fishy going on here.

Welp! Since it's Shark Day...

Might cop Peacemaker since Charlton Comics are the best comics.

I just wish these were 6 inch instead of 7 inch so I can pose them with my other DC figures.

Hmmmm. These five seem to be advertised way heavy. Not complaining just noting.

@Ryos - Yeah it's been pretty heavy implied that these will be the main squad of the movie, like the other team will be killed off early on with this group the replacement.

Has Gunn ever explained why Bloodsport's helmet looks like that. I think it looks cool (xenomorphish) but its such a massive departure from the simplistic red cloth mask he wears in the comics.
