The review embargo for The Suicide Squad lifted earlier today, and critics who were lucky enough to catch an early screening have been sharing their thoughts on Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn's first foray into the murky waters of the DCEU.

We loved the movie (you can check out our review here), and it looks like most other outlets felt the same way, as the DC Comics adventure has received an overwhelmingly positive response. Currently sitting at 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, it's actually only received one negative reaction so far, and that's since been changed to "fresh."

Most seem to be in agreement that Gunn knocked this one out of the park, and his Task Force X adventure is a vast improvement over 2016's Suicide Squad.

Empire called TSS "the most enjoyable DC movie in years," and awarded 4 stars, while fellow Brit publication The Independent noted that it's "an unbelievably vast improvement on 2016’s Suicide Squad." Even the usually quite stuffy Indiewire gave a B+, concluding with: "If the movies are killing themselves with superhero overload, at least The Suicide Squad suggests the medium will go down laughing."

Not everyone was quite so taken with the film, however. EW notes: "A good half of the jokes don't land, but unlike his predecessor's joyless slog, Gunn's version at least celebrates the nonsense," while Forbes rated it 6/10, saying: The whole of James Gunn's zany and violent 'The Suicide Squad' is less than the sum of its parts, but many of those parts are pretty damn great."

Believe it or not, these are the most negative things any critic has said about The Suicide Squad thus far, which is really quite an impressive feat.

Keep an eye on RT to see if that score fluctuates, and let us know if you plan on checking out The Suicide Squad when it hits theaters and HBO Max.

@PsychoBatemen - a friend of mine(who's opinion on films I usually agree with) has seen it and he said its funnier than the first and has better effects but isn't much better as an actual film. Im waiting to pass judgement until I see it(for free since the first was so dreadful).

IGN and DenOfGeek gave positive reviews as well.
Will definitely check this out, was always interested once Gunn was announced.

To be fair I was just as excited when Ayer was given the first movie.

Can’t blame you. After Fury, Ayer seemed like a [frick]ing awesome choice for the movie.

Looking forward to this next weekend. Will watch in theaters and probably again on HBOMAX.

I saw that, too. Review gave it a C+. Feel like those always tread the line between rotten and positive.

I remember being at the Theater and shooting "Why is she wearing shoes, she's inside."

John Barrowman was trying to calm me down but I told him to put his pants back on, we're leaving

Listen, I don't blame you for being sceptical.

Truth be told I only took John along as I felt sorry for him, but then he tried to get a refund and I was so embarrassed.
Never invited him out again

Can’t wait for this.

Already seeing SnyderVerse psychos threatening to review bomb this movie. So we’ll see what happens.

@Benjamitesandwich - See that's the fvcked up thing about all this.

This movie is the Snyderverse! That's what the DCEU is! That's what it's always been! That's what we hate about it! That's why all of it's movies either underperform or are critically panned!

But the Snyderbots also hate it because it's not the purest version of the Snyderverse.

So who is this version of the Snyderverse for exactly?

I'll tell you who it's for. DC die-hards like myself who'll eat any old shit we're fed because there's nothing else.

(except for The Batman coming soon. Finally, we get to eat the good food.)

“I'll tell you who it's for. DC die-hards like myself who'll eat any old shit we're fed because there's nothing else.”

Says more about you than anyone else. These are fictional characters, fake stories.

Movies used to be able to hold water on their own, and they still do.

Most people don’t even think about shared universes outside of the 120 minutes they have in the theater.

No. Nope. Nuh-uh. Look- I really hope that this ends up being a good movie, but don’t we all remember how things turned out with the Rotten Tomatoes reviews for the last DCEU entry?
