Superman

Tarsem Singh and Zack Snyder are actually film school peers having attended Art Centre College of Design in California [along with Michael Bay]. It makes you wonder if that particular school produces a certain "aesthetical eye" in it's graduates as both Singh and Snyder cast Cavill in their respective feature films, Immortals and the upcoming Superman reboot Man of Steel. Here's what Singh had to say about Cavill as Supes [courtesy of Digital Spy]:

"I think he's about the best Superman you could ever have," said Singh. "When I first saw him [this was before I knew he [auditioned] for Superman, because the last Superman had been made a year and a half before Immortals and tanked ] I said, 'This is Clark Kent!'"

Tarsem, goes on to say that fellow film school alum Zack Snyder would have to be "blind not to see how right [Cavill] was for [the role]".

"He's very gentle, manly, just everything was perfect for it," Tarsem said of Cavill. "He was so excited when he got it but I didn't doubt for a second that he wouldn't get it."

In speaking about whether he would ever like to jump into the comic book movie arena, Tarsem expressed some hesitancy about the genre but did reveal that he finds the DC Comics character Constantine, very interesting. "There was one thing that I was interested in long ago, not so much the look of the comic book but the character - that was Constantine. I wouldn't be interested because it was a comic strip, it would just be if I had [to do ]a take on something."

Man of Steel is an upcoming superhero film under the development of Zack Snyder, Christopher Nolan, and David S. Goyer. Based on the DC Comics character Superman, the film will be a reboot of the Superman film series. Using Chicago and Vancouver as a backdrop, with production to be based in west suburban Plano, Illinois, the film entered principal photography in August 2011, for a planned theatrical release on June 14, 2013 by Warner Bros., which also includes IMAX venues.

Clark Kent is a journalist in his twenties who was adopted as a child by Martha and Jonathan Kent when he was transported to Earth from the dying alien planet Krypton. Kent, raised with the values of his adoptive parents, feels alienated because of his unique super abilities and struggles to find his place in life. When the world is attacked, he becomes the hero, Superman, to protect its people.

While I didn't care for Immortals very much, Cavill can pull this off.

@wearethewalkingdead9 Right here, "because the last Superman had been made a year and a half before Immortals and tanked". The last Superman was released in 06, a year and a half later would be 2008

@wearethewalkingdead9 No it wasn't shelved for three yrs, Tarsem said in an interview with Cavill that he cast him something like two yrs before it went into production and that they didnt even have a script yet just one scene, he just thought Cavill was a great leading man and wanted to make a film with him. It's on youtube somewhere, I think it was at Comic-Con '11.

Of course the director of the same damn film would think the star of his film is the best Superman. How the [frick] did this make news?

All I see is one persons opinion. That's all. The opinion of someone on set at that. Try gettin the average joe to say something, then I might care. Till then, nothing so far has convinced me this will be a good movie.

@ELgUaSoN - wow, those are really lots o' gifs.

I don't question the headline. I believe in Cavill and Snyder. Sucker Punch was a hiccup.

I never cared for Christopher Reeves as Superman and Routh is just a joke, so it wouldn't take much to be the best Superman in my book. Wasn't overly impressed with Cavill in Immortals and in person he isn't very "manly" as some like to put it, but on screen he will probably pull it off. Don't like the suit, don't care for the Lois casting and don't care to see another origins and Zod storyline. I just can't get overly excited about it.

Don't care what they say.. Snyder is nothing by Hype that he fails to live up to. One decent movie in his career and people go crazy..

As for Superman. It will take ALOT for someone to do this character justice.. Still dont get how you can be the Strongest Man on Earth (Alien or Not) and still get you ass handed to you, Superman is and always will be a B**ch!

i understand the supposed need for re-boots and origins and introducing new blood to a character
But does anyone else have the feeling that sitting through clark kents early life will be a complete bore!
I also have the same feelings about watching spider-man get a re-boot,

Okay we understand, but sitting around the campfire telling stories,if you tried to tell the same story every time ,even with slight changes, well you would be asked to leave the village eventually!! just sayin!

I feel from what I have read, that they are putting a lot of effory into making MOS the best CBM ever. Being a big Superman fan, I hope that effort translates to the big screen. Can't wait!

I hope Henry Cavill will be a nice surprise and be a good Superman. Christopher Reeve is still the best one with Brandon Routh doing a good job with his appearance. After Superman the Movie, the look what Reeve had to work with. Same goes for Routh.

I still haven't seen Immortals.

I'm planning to check it out the same day it releases on DVD. Well, if RedBox will even have it yet.

I'm really looking forward to Henry Cavill's portrayal of Clark Kent/Superman.

"@Ranger14 With all that Haterade you're drinking I bet you still go watch it."

Not haterade, just my reservations about the news and images we have seen to date.

Unlike most of the youngsters here, I don't shell out money to see any CBM in a theater. If I have my doubts, I wait and Netflix it. I have my doubts and unless a trailer blows me away, I won't pay money to see it in the theater. I didn't see First Class in a theater and glad I didn't. Didn't want to see Green Hornet in the theater and really glad I didn't. Thor and Captain America I felt positive about and saw them in a theater and glad I did. Ghost Rider I won't see in a theater unless my lady drags me to it as she is a GR fan. TDKR is borderline as is Man of Steel based on what I know to date.

I can't believe all of you whingers are going on about Immortals with its flaws...Goddam it was a great movie and i never nit pick it once...My Father said it was the best movie he had seen in ages with realistic kills and heaps of blood like it should be when you get hit by a sword or your head is lobbed off...

As for Sucker Punch...What Crack is everyone on...It was another GREAT movie that was an original idea and not a reboot or adaption of anything...The second watch of this was even better for me...
This NEW version of Superman with Zack at the helm is gonna kick arse regardless...HENRY CAVILL will be the BEST Superman ever...
