With a long list of promotional partners that include Nokia, Hardees/Carls Jr, WalMart, Sears, Kellogs and others, Man of Steel has become the movie with the highest amount of promotional partners. A record which was previously held by Universal Studios' The Lorax. The Lorax had 70 partners while Man Of Steel currently has 100 partners. A number that might change on the uphill direction soon since Adage believes there's still a few more to be revealed. So far with these partners the dollar amount for promotions alone is sitting at $160,000,000.

Looks like Man Of Steel will have to make a lot more than we thought if a sequel or potentially a Justice League movie is to be financed by WB.

Unlike Green Lantern which had a lot of tie-ins but failed, Man of Steel has an epic story that will really resonate with moviegoers.

A $160M spent on promotions? WOW! And what's the production budget again, like around $200M?

wouldn't these companies be helping with the costs of the movie? it seems to me that by incorporating the Man Of Steel into their promos they are benefiting from increased exposure.

@Banner This may not mean product placement, but being allowed the Man Of Steel brand to advertise their own product...think the burger commercial...the burger joint may or may not appear in the film, but that's capatalisec on Man of Steel's current hype.

"Looks like Man Of Steel will have to make a lot more than we thought if a sequel or potentially a Justice League movie is to be financed by WB."

I apologize for my ignorance, but the way I understood it is that this companies pay the Superman property/ trademark to promote their products, not the other way around...in effect, it actually lessens the burden for the studio to recoup the production/ marketing expenses for Man of Steel...so I'm thinking like "the film already EARNED +160M even before the film is released"...could someone enlighten me on this issue...

@minatonakiaze101 You're right.. But with most business deals like this.. it's a two way street. There's usually a clause and Percentage estimate worked into the deal which pretty much covers revenue that the partner company can claim as their own under the assumption that, the movie made a certain amount BECAUSE of the company. For instance,WalMart most likely has a clause in there for customers who saw the movie because WalMart was selling the tickets. It's usually a very small negligible percentage if its just one or two companies involved cos then it's basically a recolving door of cash flow.. But in an instance like this one, It adds up and becomes quite a big sum. So they could end up paying between 85-100,000,000 back collectively.

@Emjeed Thanks for the feedback...that's actually a pretty scary scenario for the studio if (and that's a BIG "IF") the movie happen to tank at the box office...WB must be really confident with the film's revenue potential to partner up with such a huge number of companies.
