Man of Steel featured a tantalising glimpse of an open pod inside a Kryptonian ship, and that immediately led to speculation that Kara Zor-El might also be on earth. It was a moment that was never addressed by Zack Snyder, though that's no great surprise when he moved on to films like Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League instead of a direct sequel to MOS.
Neither of those films served as solo adventures for Superman, of course, but the filmmaker confirmed during his Man of Steel watch party yesterday morning that he did have plans for Supergirl.
"As we went forward, it was always my intention to broaden the universe and to continue to start to bring in more and more of the family, if you will," Snyder explained. "She certainly falls into that category. And certainly, the idea of a standalone Supergirl movie it’s a cool idea. I don’t have a script or anything in mind, but that would be amazing to see."
At the moment, Snyder remains hard at work on both Army of the Dead and his director's cut of Justice League, but if Warner Bros. were to bring him back to the DCEU, a Supergirl film might not be a bad fit.
The director has always had a firm grasp on female characters, and is certainly familiar with Krypton!
