You and me both m8. The doom, gloom, and destruction is taking its toll. I think this movie was purposely set this way in order to introduce Batman into it. Nonetheless, the movie was lacking on so many levels.

People make excuses for the film but in the end I will say what Perry White should have said...

Because he's not the hero Metropolis deserves, nor the one it will ever need. So we'll critique him. Because he can take it. Because he's not our hero. He's a silent menace. The bringer of destruction. A Man of Steel.

Jeez Dude I get that the he made some major mistakes, but nothing he did compares to what Zod did and was going to do with the World Engine. Most the destruction that Superman caused was minimal in comparison; however, I'll acknowledge the flaws here to get it out of the way.

Superman's faults were grinding Zod through one floor of sky scraper windows (not that bad), knocking him through a ground level building(we don't see inside the building to know if anyone was in there),dodging a Lex corp gas truck which exploded crashing into the ground level floor of a building (dodging the truck was dumb he should've caught it). Zod was the one who knocked a building over with his heat vision, (Superman should've tried to stop it, but either way it was gonna come down). Zod also was the one who threw Superman into multiple buildings (not Superman's fault).

The Biggest and most obvious faults was the 7-eleven he slammed Zod through, that scene was the one I took most issue with as there did seem to be people there and he didn't even try to put out the fire, instead he taunted Zod.

The second biggest issue was him colliding with Zod on a side of one building (which yeah that probably collapsed though we never see it). I do admit however, anyone who was near that collapsing building probably got hurt.

Here's thing though, he knocked down one building at most in Metropolis, accidentally caused a few wholes in some buildings which looked empty inside the rooms, also it was never specified whether or not there were people in the building he knocked down. People near where most of the destruction took place were seen evacuating as hinted at by the daily planet scene.

While he did knock Zod, Faora and Nam-ek through some ground level buildings I don't see where he killed thousands of people, in fact at most maybe couple at the 7-eleven and anyone near the collapsing building but we don't see it so much of this is assumed. In Smallville aside from the gas-station, he caused a few holes in the town buildings.

Point is Superman did some damage (accidentally or through negligence), he did some harm yes, but it wasn't intentional, he has shown a capacity to want help people and he did save people. For his first big fight he did a sloppy job, but he if they at least acknowledge it in the next film and show that he learned his lesson from this fight, I'm sure he will resemble more of the Superman we know as time goes on.

But to say he's a menace is crossing a line to me, if anything he was just a really, really flawed hero (arguably anti-heroish)did he bring or inspire hope here no, but he did stop the bad guy, he did save the world and he ultimately sided with humanity.

As far as him being a bringer of destruction, you could say the same about other heroes who have villains inspired by or personally connected to the hero. While they may have managed the situation better, heroes have caused escalation that attracts and creates bigger badder enemies and destruction follows suit, but part the job of the hero is learning from their mistakes and doing their best to clean up the mess they helped create that's why it's a never ending battle.

Agree with both Prime and Ship. Whenever I read or hear "too much destruction," it always makes me laugh.
