The movie picks up shortly after
Public Enemies left off, with a radio broadcast in Gotham City about the new automated police blimps patrolling the skies. It is discerned that President Luthor is being impeached and meteor showers nationwide are subsiding after Batman destroyed a Kryptonite asteroid. Batman has recessed back into seclusion, and Superman Attended Luthor's disposition hearing.
After an asteroid hits in Gotham Harbor, Batman quickly speeds in on the Batboat to investigate. As he is exploring the bottom of the harbor, he finds Large chunks of Kryptonite as well as what appears to be a ship of some kind with Kryptonian writing on it. Meanwhile, a young blonde woman is shown surfacing and climbing aboard the Batboat, and accidentally knocking it's thrusters into full speed. Batman gets a warning saying INTRUDER, and quickly shoots his grappling hook into the boat, which soon crashes into the shore in a fiery explosion.
ROLL OPENING CREDITS
The blonde girl is revealed to Be Kara Zor-El, Clark's cousin. Darkseid wants Kara to be the new captain of his personal guard. Wonder Woman and Batman want her to learn to control her powers before she moves to Metropolis with Clark. An army of Doomsday Clones, an appearance by Krypto the Superdog, and Big Barda playing Desperate Housewife???
I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. I feel that even though it is a sequel, the title should have Been Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman, as all three played a part in the story heavily. Although in the first Half Batman felt underused, and it was odd the normally brooding and moody Dark Knight provided more than his share of comedic relief.
Summer Glau as Supergirl is spot on, and she perfectly brings her to life as a teenager full of angst and fear of her newfound abilities. Kevin Conroy as Batman? HELL YES! Tim Daly delivers admirably as Superman, and Wonder Woman is spot-on.
The only things that bothered me about this movie was Granny Goodness looked and sounded like Grampa Goodness, and reminded me physically of Magneto, and Darkseid sounds like the Martian Manhunter from the DCAU. I wish Michael Ironside would not have been replaced by Andre Braugher.
The action is top notch, the animation is fluid and perfect. The character designs are a bit blocky, though not as bad as the early animated versions, giving Batman, Superman, and Darkseid much more of a squared appearance and facial features. Batman's ears on the cowl also appeared exceptionally long, longer even than the Batman Beyond version.
The Women are drawn proportionally accurate though. Those DC Pervs!!!!
Fans of the show Smallville will recognize the Smallville sign, as well as the Kent farm. Aside from the house being blue instead of yellow, it looks exactly like the one on the show. Inside the barn will also bring up some Smallville memories.
All in All I found the movie very enjoyable, and Batman even manages to halfway crack a smile in the process. I give this movie 4 and a half Mjolnirs out of 5
