"Superman: Doomsday": A Comprehensive Interview with Writer Duane Capizzi

Condensing the death and rebirth of Superman storyline into a 77-minute film was pretty much an impossible task, so the creators of "Superman: Doomsday" elected to do an "inspired by" rather than "based on" film. In this interview, writer Duane Capizzi details the creative process.

Best Superman on Film to-date. Better than any live action, any spin off (Supergirl), or TV SHOW. That's right, I said it, Better than Christopher Reeves. Wah.

It did still leave something to be desired as it was an "inspired-by" and not a "based-on" as it should have been. I'm still going to believe that my buddies script idea, with my editing, would be the most blockbuster Superman movie ever. I know i'm just tooting my own horn, but, who doesn't? If ya didn't catch it, I do believe it's either in the Throwing the S section, or the Iron-Man section from yesterday. Read and enjoy.

Ion, I own a copy of this. It was good, but I was hoping to see other heros as well, but that didn't happen. The Justice League & Justice League Unlimited had some pretty good show as well. So I dont' know if it is the best Superman film or story to date?!

Agreed, JL and JLU have some damn good stories, and plenty o heroes to go around. Even Plastic Man and Elongated Man...Heck, even Booster Gold...Ha

Yeah well i prefer "The Batman" animated show's version of Superman.

As for this specific movie is concerned, it's trash. Granted it's cool trash but trash none the less. Listen people, this is animation. The possibilities are endless... ENDLESS!!! What's this crap i hear they had to fit it into 77 minutes! That's horse shit!!!

You're telling me that with all the money that DC and WB combined make, they can't pull off a decent 2h 30min CGI movie?. Shit Disney does every year!!! They could've gotten a decent animation company, doesn't have to cost billions, but get an animation that's a little less blocky, make it as acurately as possible and include the whole story from the moment Doomsday escapes his pod to the climactic ending where Eradicator and The newly resurected Superman fuse together to destroy Cyborg.

They're feeding us catpoop and i will not eat that catpoop! I WON'T EAT CATPOOP!!!.....

Alright if i eat the catpoop will you give me a steak? One bite of catpoop... NO!! NO!!!! I'M NOT GONNA EAT IT!!! I'M NOT EATING CATPOOP!!!!!

Ok Shaman, calm down a little bit bro. Agreed it could have been longer, but the CGI has to be like Final Fantasy or RPG Cinematics---not like the Pixar or Disney CGI. Thats for kids even thou some of the stuff is good. And by the they worked on those projects years in advance.
Shaman
Shaman - 11/25/2008, 2:58 PM
True...good point. But i mean even if it wasn't CGI, look at the Ultimate Avenger's animated movies, look at the Invincible Ironman animated movie, look at Doctor Strange's animated movie... THEY ALL KICK ASS!!!!! Why oh WHY... did the MOST popular storyline ever written in comic book history have to settle for catpoop. Can someone answer me that? The answer is ...cause. And that answer is idiotic! We all damn well know that if Superman was a Marvel character, we would have seen his death on the big screen and not on a DVD put in a playstation2 played on a 13 inch monoral tv in a basement!!! DC sucks balls...apparently some one else's since they themselves don't have any.

mrHJK - 11/25/2008, 3:14 PM
Sorry, Shaman but I have to disagree. This movie is WAY better than anything animated Marvel has put out.

However, you're right- it could have and should have been better than it is...
"DC sucks balls...apparently some one else's since they themselves don't have any."
That would be WB.. DC sucks WB in case you were wondering.

I am digging the Anchorman reference. Hysterical movie. Agreed also on the fact that they could have EASILY gotten away with 120 minutes for this movie. If not 1 movie, like 3. It would have and could have worked.

Well I still can't believe that DC has all this $ with WB. Thou I dont' believe they suck ..., they do good with cartoon series. Just wish they will do a Long enough anime.

I didn't care for the old school ridges on the face either. But in the extra's they did explain they were going for something a bit different.

Shaman
Shaman - 11/26/2008, 9:23 AM
Well mrHJK, i was saying that the "animation" was better in the Marvel movies than this one. As for the story line well... can't comment on them really since i haven't seen them completely, only bits and pieces. Enough for the animation to make me fall on my ass compared to this shitty movie. And you're tottally right, they're sucking WB... how could that fact evade me i wonder...

Roar, you couldn't have said it any better!!! Why bother making it? Save the money till you get enough to pull off a decent one "IF" you don't have enough that is (*caugh* horse shit *caugh*caugh*)!!!

J20- "Did anybody have a problem w/Sup's face?"... No...YYYEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSS, Oh MAN that was a good one! Up TOP! Verrry NICE! Yea-NO his face SUCKED ass dude!!! Like all of a sudden he's SEEL or somethin like WTF!?!?!?! "We're tryin somethin different..." what, like "sucking"? You guys've been doin it since like EVER!!! Like....

My point exactly ROAR! The new Brave and Bold cartoon...HELLLOOOOOOO!!!! You want good animation, new spidey there you go! OH and the best is yet to come, any of you guys saw the new IRONMAN animated series trailor on the Special Edition of Ironman movie? NOW THAT'S KICK ASS IN YOUR FACE ANIMATION, DC!!! Take some notes!
Spock

Shaman
Shaman - 11/26/2008, 12:43 PM
Actually no i don't, should i? Whould it matter? What would be the purpose of going there... to be told "hey guys... look, i KNOW that we suck but you have to look at the bigger picture here... we're goin "OLD" SCHOOL with this...sooooo it's cool right?" How'bout NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! Like what DATE are we??? Freakin 1945 or somethin? How'bout "NEW" SCHOOL for a change, how'bout technological advancement, how'bout QUALITY instead of excuses!!! I'm not up for nostalgia 24/7, i want EVERY comic book company to go "You wanted to head forward into the new millenium? THERE you go!" :
