Superman Grounded Till At Least 2012

Superman Grounded Till At Least 2012

Warner Bros. released their movie slate today via Variety, with no plane, no bird, no Man Of Steel on the horizon till at least 2012.

Which means from a court ruling set forth last week that Warner Bros. will lose rights to Superman if a Superman movie is not in production by 2011. With the studios jam packed all star line up of films which includes the last two Harry Potters and the Green Lantern film, makes it look pretty grim regarding the studios ability to get a guy up in the air to play Supes by the 2011 deadline.

Alan Horn (WB Chief) said at the trial that a Superman movie is not currently in development, no script exists, and that the earliest we could possibly see Superman fly again would be 2012. This would put The Man Of Steel up against Marvel's The Avengers.

Unfortunately the Warner Bros. release schedule also had no time slot for a third Batman film from Christopher Nolan. Mr. Nolan has not said if he will return to the Bat franchise.

If they release it in the winter, it will dominate.

The first one came out in December 1978...

Big surprise, I could honestly care less about seeing the next Lex Luthor movie. Oh wait I know! this time he will marry an old astronaut, and afer the dude dies Lex will inherit his space shuttle. then he will charge people to make a space colony on the kryptonit mountain.

Kudos to Torque for the apocalyptic reference. As for Supes... while I can't wait for the next movie, guess I'll have to. Here's hoping Warner Bros. produces some decent DC movies in that time period (personally, I think that a Wonder Woman movie is all ready long over do and should fill that gap between now and 2012 somewhere).

Honestly, I don't care about another Superman film, I just have that feeling it's going to be boring as hell like the current one, and even the older ones. Don't get me wrong, they have a place in my heart for nostalgic reasons, but they really were not that good. I mean Superman changing time by spinning the world in the other direction? Frisbee "S"? I rest my case.

@Torque, you're an fool if you believe that. @SpideyWidey, I thought the tradition was to not make a reference to Supermike until after he commented... I want to see a movie that does Superman justice. I'm sick of hearing all the news, I just want to see some results.

Superman is by far not my favorite hero...but I did want to see a movie that does him justice. Now it seems we have a much longer wait for that.

This is shameful how much more effort Marvel is putting into their franchises than DC. Dark knight was incredible so keep it going. Dont stop and kill all its momentum. Superman reboot could be awesome, so keep it going... The material is there they just just need to keep making projects with their unbelievable characters. And 2011 will be such a freaking incredible year as far as CBMs are concerned!!! A finale that big is only fitting seeing as we will all die in 2012. Bring on the CBMs!!! and make one of them Superman...please..?

Really, the studio shouldn't wait for Nolan to make up his mind and move forward on a new Batman film without him. There are several directors that could take the reins and run with what he has brought to the big screen. For come to mind right away....

David Fincher, Fight Club, 7even, and Zodiac are perfect examples of not just stunning films, but also dark and gritty. Fincher understands what it takes to make a story that would fit Bats.

Darren Aronofsky, he's a bit strange, but a darling with the studios after The Wrestler.

Ridley Scott, like the guy who brought us Alien, Black Hawk Down, Gladiator, and Blade Runner couldn't bring his fantastic vision of violent action to Batman.

Martin Scorsese, is the master of the crime film. With the realistic take on Batman that Nolan has brought us, the maker of Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, The Departed, and so many other great films, he could take us to another great take on the Batman.

As far as the "rights" to Superman, all the studio has to do is have a producer in place and hire a writer to label a project "in development". Even if they can the writer for a different one at a later time. That could put Superman back in theaters in 2013.
Shaman
Shaman - 7/14/2009, 10:06 AM
Again, they're not saying shit but they're not about to let the rights go. They'll make it. What Horn said was bullshit. They can have someone take the rest of the week to write the script. They'll easily film it and put it out by 2011. I call shinanigans. As if the high and mighty WB doesn't have the resources to keep those rights, DUUUUUUHHH!!!! :P

Ooops I almost forgot..... Ryan Reynolds has been tapped to play the entirety of the Justice League, including Wonder Woman (the CGI on that will be amazing, but DeNiro would have gotten the implants) as well as all currently uncast Marvel roles.
Phinehas
Phinehas - 7/14/2009, 10:13 AM
I'm glad!

Yep! I said it. Maybe they'll stew a little longer on this one instead of rushing into development. Maybe they won't put full trust into a man making a homage to an older (though very well made for its time) film, then even screwing that up! Maybe they'll consult with fans of the character(of which Singerman wasn't), via comics, movies (predating SR and Supes III), tv, and animation. Perhaps consult with the writers of say, I dunno, DC?!?

Supes III was better than SR, conceptually! Visually, no argument, but consider what you saw in that film. Nothing that would blow your hair back.
