Superman: Legacy opens is theaters on July 11, 2025 - exactly two years from today - and director James Gunn has taken to social media to share his excitement for the DCU reboot.
The filmmaker shared some (unofficial) artwork of the Man of Steel and Lois Lane, along with the following caption:
"Superman: Legacy opens two years from today. It may seem far away to many of you, but it’s close to me! We have a lot to do between now and then. But I haven’t been more excited about a project in forever… and this cast, slowly coming together… holy cow."
So far, only David Corenswet (Clark Kent/Superman) and Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane) have been announced, but we know there are quite a few supporting characters left to cast, including Lex Luthor and members of the super-group known as The Authority.
Gunn's post may suggest that he has settled on some other actors for these roles (both Bill and Alexander Skarsgård are said to be up for Lex), but if this is the case, he isn't giving anything away just yet!
“Superman: Legacy is the true foundation of our creative vision for the DC Universe. Not only is Superman an iconic part of DC lore, he is also a favorite character for comic book readers, viewers of earlier movies, and fans around the world," said Gunn during the DCU slate announcement. "I can’t wait to introduce our version of Superman who audiences will be able to follow and get to know across films, movies, animation and gaming.”
