THR has published a special Monday edition of the Heat Vision newsletter, and it features some intriguing updates on Superman: Legacy director James Gunn's search for the latest actors to bring Clark Kent and Lois Lane to life on the big screen.
We've known about the six contenders (three for Supes, three for Lois) for a while now, but the trade has now revealed which actors were paired up for last weekend's screen-tests.
Nicholas Hoult and Rachel Brosnahan; Tom Brittney and Phoebe Dynevor; and David Corenswet and Emma Mackey.
They reportedly auditioned in makeup and wardrobe as Kent and Lane, with the men donning the iconic red and blue costume for the second days of testing. Interestingly, Mackey was said to be the only actress brought in to read with all three of the guys, which may indicate that she has emerged as the front-runner.
Once Clark and Lois are cast - and an announcement could come later this week - Gunn will focus on finding our new Lex Luthor. According to THR, bothers Alexander and Bill Skarsgård are both on the shortlist. It seems Hoult was initially up for the villain before deciding to try out for Superman instead, but if he doesn't land the part of the Man of Steel, he may put himself in the running for Lex again.
There are several other roles to cast, including members of the ruthless super-team known as The Authority (apparently, "part of the new storyline is Superman joining a world in which superheroes already exist").
“Superman: Legacy is the true foundation of our creative vision for the DC Universe. Not only is Superman an iconic part of DC lore, he is also a favorite character for comic book readers, viewers of earlier movies, and fans around the world," said Gunn during the DCU slate announcement. "I can’t wait to introduce our version of Superman who audiences will be able to follow and get to know across films, movies, animation and gaming.”
Superman: Legacy is set to hit theaters in 2025.
