THE SUICIDE SQUAD Director James Gunn's Next DC Project Could Involve KRYPTO THE SUPERDOG

THE SUICIDE SQUAD Director James Gunn's Next DC Project Could Involve KRYPTO THE SUPERDOG

Earlier this week, The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker director James Gunn teased working on another project in the DC Extended Universe, and it's now being reported that it could involve a certain Superdog.

During a recent Instagram Q&A with fans, James Gunn was asked if he's working on any additional DC projects beyond The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker. His response was, "Maybe just a little. One toe dipped in."

As you might expect, speculation soon went into overdrive, and a new report from Murphy's Multiverse may shed some light on what the mystery project is.

While the site stresses that this should be taken with a pinch of salt for now, they note: "I've been told that the project that Gunn is dipping his toe in is Krypto. Though this is JUST a rumor, it checks a lot of boxes as far as believability."

If you follow the filmmaker on social media, you'll know that he's a huge animal lover, and his late dog, Wesley Von Spears, was the inspiration for Groot in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, and even made a couple of cameo appearance in the MCU. Warner Bros. also offered Gunn the chance to direct a Superman feature, so perhaps he's convinced them to put the spotlight on Krypto?

It's worth noting that there is a DC Super Pets animated feature in the works, so Gunn could have taken a crack at the screenplay for the studio or even lent his voice to one of the characters.

We'll have to wait and see, but it's definitely exciting to think that there could be plans for Krypto the Superdog beyond this 2022 release. Gunn is expected to move straight on to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 following Peacemaker, so this project isn't likely to be anything too significant (like a full-blown movie).

Stay tuned for updates!
