Vandal Savage for MAN of Steel 2

Vandal Savage for MAN of Steel 2

I'm writing this to express an idea I have for a good Superman movie and to help showcase the need to use this rich collection of Villains that are almost never used.

If SMALLVILLE(please don't flame) has taught us one thing is that fans want to see these underused villains/and or heroes.Their tired of the same old villains getting used over and over.Don't get me wrong Batman still needs the Joker and Superman still needs Lex Luthor, but it gets stale if you don't mix it up.

Now I know that Ra's al Ghul was used in Batman Begins and is similar to Savage in terms of living long and views on the world, but he has lived A REALLY LONG TIME and has seen the way the world works.Unlike the Nolan-Verse Ra's, Superman is more fictional based and has to have his enemy's has such, other wise he just looks like a whiner and a god who wants to control everything.

Vandal Savage is the character they should use next and here is my list of reasons and or ideas on the issue, please read all before committing and bear in mind that I only advocate this change has a way to tell an epic story on a grand stage.

List of reasons and or ideas:
1.)Smallville's Lex Luthor showed us a real reason for his attitude towards the Man of Steel, just his view on what he see's as a god who could rule us and not none of that "we were friends first stuff".
2.)Lex truly believes he is a good guy and is only helping the planet.
3.)Vandal Savage in my book would come across as a human separatist who would see "this alien god" as a threat to his planet.
4.)After living so long,he would come to think of this planet has his own and any person not of this world would be perceived as a threat to his way of life.
5.)Having no super powers other than being immortal,He would be really smart and well educated.trained in multiple forms of combat, understand business, science, and almost anything you could think of.
6.)In the comics and on Smallville, Vandal is said to have been known by many names:Julius Caesar,Genghis Khan,Blackbeard,Vlad the Impaler,Jack the Ripper, and even Alexander the Great. With this info one could get a feel for the character without having to spend too much time telling back story.
7.)He comes across as a man who gets bored and rightfully should having to live forever and watch people do stupid things over and over.
8.)He also tries to stay modern and in the modern world...Where do you think he would be and what his name and profession would be called?

I think if he were alive in the modern dc universe, he would be a business man having spent all his life watching how things work, he would be rich, and he would be on the forefront of advanced tech.He would live in the most advanced city in the DC universe....Metropolis.

And his name.....a throw back of one of his first attempts at trying to lead the world............LEX LUTHOR

Now we have a epic showdown......Now I know the last thing people want to see is Lex Luthor being the main villain because he isn't a physical enemy.
I'm still for the idea of him running stuff behind the scenes while other stronger villains take him on, just think it adds more character if THESE TWO VILLAINS WERE MERGED. THANK YOU.

you could still have him team up with Brainiac(disguised as Milton Fine),but Lex(savage) is too smart to not watch his friends and would only use him to rid the world of this greater pest to his ecosystem SUPERMAN and then turn on Brainiac

CEFirestone - 11/1/2011, 12:16 PM
but i don't really want LEX to be the center on the movie, just more of a darkseid role as in doing his deeds from afar and using others to further his goals

I see the irony of it being.the man with all these powers but could still die.....vs the man with no powers but lives forever.................

so superman's struggle would be to inspire the world to greatness so when he is no longer living, people will standup to the cockroach that is Vandal Savage aka Lex Luthor

And hey throw in an attempt from him to give himself powers, which would make him unstoppable.

I like it. Have Lex (Savage) Lex come up with a serum that gives him Superman's powers like in all star superman and watch him throw down. And I don't think people hate lex I think they just hate the way he has been portrayed in film. I'm sure alot of people would like to see lex as the billionaire business man rocking the green and purple battle armor.

I've always hated the backstory of Vandal Savage. Besides, he isn't even a Superman villain. How about a big name Superman villain like Brainiac, Lex (without the stupid battlesuit), Mongul, Metallo, Parasite, Doomsday, Darkseid, Toyman (as a side villain), or Bizarro? The idea that Vandal was all these famous people has always been a bit silly, contradictary, and confusing to me. Lex doesn't even need an origin anyways.
Redhood2k10
Redhood2k10 - 11/1/2011, 10:28 PM
@ golden. Why is it silly? If he is immortal I'm sure vandal savage isn't the only alias he has used. And we've had led without the battlesuit already so adding it would be a change of pace at his Lex and Superman throw down. Monthly would be sweet, doomsday not until the 3rd film, toyman lol don't make me laugh, metallic would be precieved as a terminator ripoff, parasite is a no, bizarre can't hold a film himself, Darkseid is a big fat yes.

Monthly is suppose to be mongul. For a smart phone this Droid is pretty dumb -_-

If there's one thing Smallville taught us, it's that we DON"T want to see half-assed versions of classic characters shoehorned into stories they don't belong in...how about a villain who actually has some relevance to Superman?
hatrick3
hatrick3 - 11/2/2011, 10:34 AM
Savage would be great in a live action movie. Immortal characters have a wealth of story potential. Also, I think he could be a far more believable character than a villian such as Toyman. Given the current popularity of vampires immortals seem to be a fan favorite as well.

Darkseid wasn't created as a villain for Sups, Solomon Grundy wasn't made for Batman, but the writers mixed it up and made a realistic world in DC where the heroes and villains could team up and vise verse. VANDAL SAVAGE IS PART OF THE DC UNIVERSE AND WILL OUTLIVE EVERY PERSON ON EARTH(DC WISE)......so he does belong in sups comics and every other dc comic that takes manly on earth.

He is a cockroach, he is like a weed, when sups is gone, when lex dies, batmans gone, everyone else is dead.......Vandal Savage will still be here

Oh JohnnyKrypton.their was a lot of stuff Smallville did wrong and not every character was done right.......they did try to give many of them motives for what they do and in modern context....some of the better characters they used(some never before seen on TV before Smallville) can be used to inspire the movie versions.

I have my gripes too, but some of the underused villains they featured on Smallville had great potential, but these business people don't want to introduce someone buried in the comics unless their image has been tested in the TV market.....so Smallville may help to finally get us those villains we loved from the comics.
CEFirestone
CEFirestone - 11/2/2011, 10:45 AM
AND THE HEROES.......SORRY CAN'T FORGET THEM TOO
CEFirestone
CEFirestone - 11/2/2011, 10:54 AM
What about this.....Vandal has spent a long time trying to make himself more powerful in a attempt to better rule earth, but lacks something.....until this alien shows up showcasing all these ability's ....which leads to him wanting to harvest Superman so he can have all the power.....................................And since he is long lived and has experience hiding his identity......would find out Sups is Clark Kent but wont tell cause superman would uncover the truth about Vandal and who he has been in the course of history( the original bad guy) thus explaining why he wouldn't just give it up......Vandal is immortal but wouldn't want people to know who he really is out of fear of being caged the rest of his life.

the perfect way to do sup is to have Lex as the face of the main villian. Who due to his anger towards Sup interns makes matallo as a Sups equel with a side story of darkseid pulling Lex's stings. That would be crazy and even lead to a Sup 3 where u have Darkseid manipulating several other sup villians. This is where you can use parasite & brainiac. Bazzaro has already been done I don't was any superman remakes althow that's what we are getting now.

@CEFirestone: Wasn't Darkseid originally a Jimmy Olsen villain or something? That isn't exactly a big jump considering Jimmy is a Superman supporting character and wouldn't exist without the Man of Steel. Also, I don't think of Solomon Grundy as a Batman villain. I consider Solomon grundy to be a Green Lantern villain, more specifically a Alan Scott enemy.
Furthermore, I don't understand how the statement, "VANDAL SAVAGE IS PART OF THE DC UNIVERSE AND WILL OUTLIVE EVERY PERSON ON EARTH(DC WISE)", backs up your case of him fighting Superman.
CEFirestone
CEFirestone - 11/4/2011, 4:22 PM
Yeah he first appeared in "Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen",but then was transferred over to New Gods.Wasn't until many years later that he started to become a requiring villain fro Sups.Solomon Grundy did get his start as one of the Original Green Lantern Alan Scott's villains. He was regarded for many years to be one of Batman's villains, but like Darkseid and Vandal,he has fought many other DC villains.

I use the same reasoning for Vandal that DC used for Darkseid.
He was made for a certain comic without thinking of other uses when the core of the character seems a perfect fit for a different comic. Darkseid is a dictator, which goes against what Sups stands for and has power levels on par with him.Vandal Savage is a dictator, the original dictator at that, and uses his intellect(just like Lex) to challenge Superman.

After all the modern hero's and villains are gone,Vandal Savage will still pose a threat to the world.Darkseid too would still pose a threat to the rest of the universe, before meeting his end at Orion's hand as foretold.Vandal is universal and can be used as a villain to any DC character because of his immortality.

Really he is the worst kind of villain for Superman:

-Superman doesn't believe in taking a life.
-Vandal won't die
-Because he can't die,he has the one weapon no other DC villain has(besides maybe Brainiac and Darkseid to a certain extent).....TIME.

Vandal tries and usually fails at his conquests of the world ,but always learns from them.He has more time to set his plans into motion, and doesn't let the fear of failure cloud his vision. He need not worry for if he doesn't succeed he can always try again and do it better.Nothing Sups could do could rattle him or make him change his mind,if he couldn't defeat him he would just wait like he always has for his enemy's to die off.

I meant DC hero's at the end of that first paragraph.

In the first Christopher Reeves Superman Movie,Jor-El tells Kal-El something to the effect of save people but don't interfere in their lives and be an example for them to look up too instead of telling everybody what to do.Vandal is set in his ways and Superman couldn't change that so he would have to try even harder so people will learn to take down the evil in the world after he is gone.Vandal in the comics is linked to most of Earth's darkest hours and could be viewed like the devil as Mephisto is viewed in Marval.
golden123
golden123 - 11/4/2011, 8:19 PM
@CEFirestone: Vandal wasn't a dictator, all those other people that the writers claim he was were dictators. If the writers were good at their job they would be able to make up his own history instead of just coming up with a bunch of famous warriors and throwing them in his backstory.

In my opinion, I dont feel Vandal Savage as a movie villain. And the only way I'd wanna see Lex, is if they made his personality more like the 90's era Lex. A corrupt business man that would kill you to get what he wants and have a glass of champagne and laugh about it afterwards. No, the villians I would like to see in the sequels are Darkseid, Parasite, Mongol (Cause I mean, who wouldnt wanna see Supes throw down in an intergalactic arena?), Metallo, Conduit and of course who can forget Doomsday?

Not bad, and Savage could be a good idea for a future movie, but hell no to him and Lex Luthor being the same character. The thing that makes Lex Luthor a great character is the fact that he's human. JUST human. No powers, no alien heritage, just an extraordinary mind and the money to create any weaponry he feels is necessary for fighting the 'threat' of Superman.

It'd be interesting to see Savage and Luthor meet on screen though, due to their similarities. They'd obviously butt heads at some point.

I would, MOST DEFINITELY, NOT MIND seeing Lex Luthor as, at the very least, a, if not THE, MAIN VILLAIN, in a Man Of Steel sequel..., but AT THE SAME TIME HOWEVER, I would also very much like to/kind of NEED TO SEE Luthor in this upcoming origin-story film as "the one" pulling the strings... here, ya know?!!!... *begging*/P :)
