Warner Bros Files Lawsuit against Superman Heirs' Lawyer

Warner Bros Files Lawsuit against Superman Heirs' Lawyer

Remember how Warner Brothers said they're planning a new "Superman" reboot film in time for December 2012? And fans wondered just HOW that's possible, since DC Comics loses the rights to the Superman character in 2013? Well, I just found this new twist in regards to the latest on the "Superman" legal rights battle.

Here's an excerpt from the article:

"The suit was filed in the United States District court for the Central District of California against, among others, Marc Toberoff, a lawyer and film producer who helped the heirs of the Superman co-creator Jerome Siegel win a ruling that in 2008 let them recapture rights from Warner.

Mr. Toberoff has also represented the estate of Joseph Shuster, who with Mr. Siegel created Superman as a comic book series in the 1930s.

But Warner's suit on Friday said Mr. Toberoff had worked for years to interfere with agreements between the studio and the heirs, to leave himself with at least 47.5 percent of any rights recovered, while the Siegel heirs and Shuster heirs would each receive only about a quarter of the rights."

This fight for the legal rights to the Superman character just keeps getting worse. There's so much more from the New York Times article. Just click on the link for the full article, and let me know what you guys think of this news.

*Sigh* I don't expect to see Superman on film till I'm a grandpa, and I'm 22!

You know who deserves Superman? Us. Us fans. He's like poetry, music, weed (lol), nature, the sky, love, hate. He was made to bring out our happiness. I would never take a single dime of profit from Superman, and anyone else who does is wrong.

It's obvious who ever tries to fight for profit of Superman is a freakin' Orange Lantern. Damn you, Orange Lanterns!

This guy is a douche. From what I understand, he seeks out the family of someone who created a certain property.(Usually, they had no desire to pursue anything, or were not aware they could)He then takes the case to court with the stipulation that he will own a certain percentage of the property. He's a film producer, who's also an intellectual property attorney.See how that works out? He's basically cut out the middleman. He's going to get those properties and produce the movies himself, and laugh all the way to the bank.

I have no doubt he's been scoping out this for years.Imagine how much money he would make from 47 percent ownership of all those Marvel characters.

Looks like Supes may be in legal limbo for sometime in the very near future. I have to agree with Shazam171. Maybe Warner/DC should focus on other characters in the very near future. Oh the irony if it is Captain Marvel, I hope so. I would love to see the big red cheese on the screen, Billy is much more interesting a character than Clark, just my humble opinion.

I'd be truly pissing myself laughing if the family ended up selling Supes to Marvel :D
