TMNT Fans Want Donald Glover For Donatello, But The Actor Wants To Play Another Turtle

The Community star is no stranger to fandamonium [see Miles Morales] and the latest from Donald Glover fans involves The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and a certain turtle that "does machines".

Speaking to MTV about the notion of playing Donatello, Glover shared the following---
"Raphael. I think he's cool. I mean, Donatello's cool too, but all the stories about him were never that great. I guess I could be rude like Raphael is in the opening sequence of the animated series. That's his thing, right? Raphael is cool but rude. He was always the angsty one. He and Leonardo was always an alpha male-omega male kind of thing, where they would fight each other a lot because Leonardo was deemed the leader, the oldest. "But Raphael always wanted that title, and Splinter was always trying to break that up. Michelangelo is like 'Stop fighting.' He's the omega male. He's the one they all beat up to get their frustrations out.

"That's the thing. Donatello was kind of left out in the cold. He's kind of the middle kid. He was the smart one. He solved the problems, but that's not interesting. Nobody wants to be Professor X. No, everyone wants to be Wolverine. I want to be cool, not smart. Let's be honest. If someone said, 'Oh, you want to be Donatello?' Yeah, I'll take that. I'm not going to be like, 'No, I'm holding out for Raphael.'"

I kind of agree with Glover, and while I love all the 'Turtles' Donatello was is probably the last one I'd want to portray as well. If you had your pick, which 'Turtle' would you most/least like to play on the big screen?

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a comic book series by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird that spawned numerous successful animated series and a film franchise.

In mid October of 2009, it was announced that Viacom's subsidiary network Nickelodeon had purchased all of Mirage's rights to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles property for $9.75 million, thus terminating all deals with previous rights holder 4Kids and Time Warner. Following the news of the buyout, it was announced that Nickelodeon would produce a new film through Paramount Pictures with an expected release date sometime in 2012.

In late May of 2011 it was announced that Paramount and Nickelodeon had brought Michael Bay and his Platinum Dunes partners Brad Fuller and Andrew Form on to produce the next film that reboot the film series. Bay, Fuller, and Form would produce along side Galen Walker and Scott Mednick.

In early March, Michael Bay revealed at the 2012 Nickeloden Upfront that the film will be simply titled Ninja Turtles and that the turtles will be "from an alien race". In response to the announcement, actor Robbie Rist who voiced Michaelangelo the first three films, wrote to Bay accusing him of "sodomizing" the franchise.

Can we please get him as one of the turtles. I like Donald Glover as a comedian and I like his rap personality Childish Gambino. The guy is a serious talent and I hope this happens.

@Supersaiyanfan1 Marvel's top execs have stated numerous times that Miles Morales was a direct result of Glover campaigning for the role of Spider-Man and the response it got. Once again, mouthing off w/o the facts.

Donald Glover needs to stay away from the character of Raphael...

@FriendlyJoShFest, he's not bitching, and he doesn't even have a part yet, did you actually read the article? Fans are campaigning to get him a role and he was just responding to it, he's allowed to have an opinion. Chill the [frick] out.

I thought I heard that Raphael WAS the oldest, which is why he was always upset that Leonardo was chosen as the leader.

I picked Michelangelo as my turtle most likely to play. I'm a child at heart and I have a stupid sense of humor. That's Michelangelo.
I wouldn't want to play Leonardo, because I wouldn't want to be the cocky asshole of the group.
LP4
LP4 - 5/3/2012, 9:53 AM
@AxlKomix- Haha yeah I see your point bro. But I always felt that if any asshole in the team, it was Raph.

@Duke- Oh that is awesome!!! It's just most sites were saying he "could be" or "might be" the villain so i'm glad he is a sure thing finally. He never got his chance in a movie. Now is finally his shot!

Yes, it is important as a professional actor who is serious about their career to carefully weigh the options for the roles they choose to accept, such as which CGI talking man-turtle hybrid you are going to play. ;)

@axlkomix you couldn't be more wrong Leo is the one that listen to his father and do what he says and he takes up for his brothers while ralph is the one going around throwing his weight picking fights disobeying splinter and just plain out be rude Leo is like a soldier boy and Ralph is the asshole

Donny was always my Dave, but I can see what he means.
Dedpool
Dedpool - 5/3/2012, 11:07 AM
I've always been a Donny fan and I think he's been portrayed wrong. I personally like the bo staff as a weapon in general. The Double Katans and sais and nunchukus are cool but the bost staff had the reach and the bone breaking ability. Donny should've been protrayed in my mind as the turtle trying to balance brain and brawn He's smarter than the rest but just as much the warrior as Leo. I'd actually have him training more to keep his skills top notch because sometimes he feels he lets them slip with all the brainy stuff he does. He'd always be trying to prove to himself if not his brothers that he's every bit the fighter they are.

Clayface27 - 5/3/2012, 11:15 AM
I agree with Dedpool! I've always been a Donatello fan and the only time they actually made him cool was in Ninja Turtles 2 the secret of the ooze. They made him, Not only a geek, but just one of the guys. He held his own in a fight and he told jokes alongside Mikey. I think they should make him An actual main character this time instead of focusing on Leo and Raph like they ALWAYS DO

Teenage Ninja African American Aliens Who Look Like Turtles. I guess It's a good thing they are gonna shorten that to Ninja Turtles.

He could be Donny and Donny isnt that much of a push over at all and neither is Mickey when it comes to fighting.Mikey is probably the fastest and most agile. While Leonardo is the most well rounded and Raphael well lets put it like this he is the last one you want to get in a fight with and Donny really doesnt pull punches at all
