Creator James O'Barr Says That The Crow Reboot "Definitely Will Happen"

Recent reports have stated that The Crow reboot is dead due to studio money problems, but according to creator James O'Barr, there is still hope. Check it out after the jump

During a panel hosted by ComicBook.com at last weekend's Twin Tiers Comic Con, O’Barr said,

"It’s still very much a live property,"

"The company, Pressman Films, that owns The Crow film and TV rights, licensed it to a studio named Relativity. And Relativity made like a hundred bad movies and lost money so now they’re in financial trouble. So the producers are just going to take it to another studio if Relativity can’t get backing again. It’s going to happen. I talked to Pressman Films a couple of weeks ago and they said within two or three weeks, we should have it placed at a new studio. Because the day Relativity announced that they were having financial problems, there were like a dozen other studios that called about getting The Crow property. it definitely will happen."

During the panel, O'Barr also talked about the film, which he said will be very true to the comics.

"I’m very happy with everything," he said.

Are you excited for the reboot?  Do you think there's any chance that the reboot will top the original film?

Up until I saw this panel I would agree 100%. Just do another shitty sequel and then the only way is up and it might even turn into the first good sequel.
But!
Then I saw this panel:

Now, I would still kinda rather it didn't happen at all, but if they can do it the way J. O'Barr talks about it, in the above video, then I have to admit, I am very intrigued. Brothers Quay? The Crow talks? No sci-fi superpowers bullshit? Horses, trains, the works?

Look, if they just respect not only the original comic book, but also the 1994 film, then it could be good.

Maybe they could get the actress who played Sarah to reprise her role (or even whatserface who played her in the sequel, even). Even though it would still have characters called Eric and Shelley and Top Dollar and Funboy, even though it might be set in the '80s again, or the modern day, and it wouldn't seem to make sense, it would just be a great thing to have some sort of connection to the original.

I dunno, guys. The more I think of how good the film could be, the more I like it.
But it would have to be exactly how Barr sells it in the panel. If another studio comes along and goes all Hollywood on it? Then Fvck. That.

If it is going to happen no matter what and it's not going to be a sequel, then I would really rather the film gets made how it was going to get made before Relativity went all tits up.

* Svankmeyer, not Brothers Quay. My bad.

@DukeAcureds

Right on man, the original is a classic but I think if they stick closer to the comics and have a talented cast and director who are passionate about the material, we could get something special

Like you said though, the only way this could really work is if they don't go all Hollywood on it and [frick] it up

I'm on the fence between shitty sequel, and screwing up the classic with a reboot.

They should hire Ron Perlman. He's great at starring in shitty CBMs that nobody asked for.

WHO CARES? The first film was just ok. All of the sequels were lame. Nobody will pay money for a reboot.

Fantastic 4 reboot will be more successful than a Crow reboot

Even the batmaan vs superman flick will be uneventful.

Just let this thing die already. Yeah, there are enough fans to make up a cult following for it, but this is such a plagued property that I can't see this doing well.
