Edward R. Pressman Says That THE CROW Remake Is A 'Reinvention' Of The Graphic Novel

As you might know, The Crow is getting a reboot, and even though nobody wants to see it, it's still gonna happen. Now the producer Edward R. Pressman says that it's gonna be a 'reinvention' of the James O'Barr's graphic novel for the 21st Century. More details after the jump.

Hollywood is apparently out of new ideas, as it seems every classic movie is getting a reboot these days like Conan, Total Recall, Starship Troopers, and now even the classic Alex Proyas' The Crow is getting one. The original movie, which was the last time we saw Brandon Lee on the big screen, was based on the 1989 comic book of the same name by James O'Barr. And the reboot apparently will be a 'reinvention' of that according to producer Edward R. Pressman:

"The original 1994 Crow film holds a special place in my heart. The current film is a 'reinvention' of James O'Barr's graphic novel for the 21st Century. We're thrilled to have teamed with director Javier Gutierrez and screenwriter Jesse Wigutow on this story, which remains true to the core of Eric Draven's plight for revenge," he said. "Giving too much away wouldn't be any fun. 'Disorder, chaos, anarchy -- now that's fun!'

The guy apparently has passion on the project and might do the best he can to deliver a good job, but still, it is a reboot, which are never welcome by fans and doesn't overcomes the original neither, but let's wait and see how that turns out. The Crow release date has yet to be revealed, but it has Javier Gutierrez attached as the director and Jesse Wigutow as the screenwriter. Stay tuned on CBM for more news on the movie.

Oh wow this is going to be terrible. Why can't Hollywood come up with new ideas for movies. Do they know that the audience would rather have something new that they have never seen before instead of movies we already know the plot for.

I honestly think, after watching drive, Ryan Gosling would be a good Crow.

Can't wait to see Eric Draven as a misunderstood emo kid, dying while My Chemical Romance is playing in the background. Score by Fall Out Boy....If Trent Reznor was dead, he'd be rolling in his grave.

But he's not dead, he'll just piss all over this movie. As he well should.

They just decided to take the Goth out of The Crow.

After seeing 10 Things I Hate About You, I always thought that Heath Ledger would have made a great Crow character and after his Joker, that opinion was cemented. Unfortunately, he's "no longer available"

As a big fan of the graphic novel at that time I remember being kinda disappointed at the Crow movie.

The comic is unforgiving and pretty intense. The movie was like Crow lite and turned the crows main character into a likable rockstar-It took away all the power, and forboding of the comic.

I felt that while Brandon Lee shined at times his voice was a little goofy. Or perhaps most likely awkward deliver can be attributed to badly written dialog of which there is plenty. But this isn't about Brandon Lee because I thought he did fantastic with the material he was given.

In the comic Eric is shooting morphine, and blowing people away left and right. He's insane over what happened to his life.

Reading the books before the movie came out you didn't really know if Eric was dead, Or a guy driven so insane with drugs and revenge, until you get to a certain point.(of course now it's common knowledge)It could all be a coma induced delusion. The people he went up against were wicked in the comic. In the film they're Death Wish 5 villans that didn't make the cut or evil guys in suits.

The movies writers and director got a whole lot wrong. Him standing around having conversations with Ernie Hudson and the whole discover of Erics weakness of destroying the bird to kill the man.Please. That's bullshit, the character in the comic was relentless; there was no way of stopping his retribution. The whole situation was a runaway frieght train. In effect, the whole nightmarish aspect of the story was watered down.

Anyway, if they're going to make this movie than they need to follow the original graphic novel sans the "extra material". We've gotten plenty of watered downed versions starting with the first film, and it's horrid sequels and tv and comic spin-offs. Do it right and then leave it be- no sequels, no tv show etc. etc.

But really it's time to move on,and stop trying to milk it with all these "different types of Crows"(And actually the character isn't called "The Crow",his name is just Eric which noone calls him after he's dead)

The Crow was a good movie, I own it on DVD, but it was not a great movie. The production values were low and Brandon Lee, though good in the role, was not a great actor. The sequals were all terrible and should be destroyed immediately. As far as a reboot goes, I just hope that they improve upon the original.

Well he quoted the original film. I have the original graphic novel too. So basically same characters, new setting and situation, but the main plot of returning from the dead for revenge is there.

I have no problems with reboots, as long as the story is based on an original book and not just an original screenplay. With The Crow, Brandon Lee's version was awesome, but strayed heavily from the book. If companies want to make a dozen movies on one book until they get right then fine, but to remake something like Psycho or King Kong or even Robocop, that's ridiculous. They've been done already, move on. But Hollywood must keep these movies away from Tim Burton LOL. I mean his versions of Planet of the Apes and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory were pure garbage and he said they were more to the original books. So if The Crow is done more faithfully to the original comics then I say fine, do it, can't wait. Those comics were awesome. Just like the reboot of Spiderman. I have no problem with it cause it's an endless storyline and so much can be done with it. Raimi's versions were great (except III of course) and if they ever decided to reboot Batman, I'll accept it, but it will be a very tough challenge for them to top Nolan's versions. I can't see Batman being rebooted. Nolan resurrected a dying franchise, why start over yet again, but the same can be argued about Spiderman. Let's hope they have something here with The Crow.

Clint Eastwood is gonna play The Crow! Do you feel lucky punk?!:)

No seriously i think Charlie Hunnam would be cool

I would rather see them making Spawn or The Darkness movie than reinvention of The Crow.

Seriously Spawn and The Darkness would be great.
Specially The Darkness which dont have big screen adaptation.
Charlie Hunnam would be awesome Jackie Estacado.

if it's one thing James O Barr would want, it's someone remaining his personal creative outlet for the death of his fiancee.

PatientZero - HA!

poor hollywood...have you hit such a massive artist's block that you can't find ANY original ideas. Rebooting movies that are 10, 20 years old and were based on somebody else's comic to begin with? What does it say about you as an industry, that your creative talent is so [frick]ing BARREN? WHERE ARE THE GOOD NEW STORIES???
