Weinstein's Suing Relativity Media Over The Crow Remake

The Crow remake has already had it's fair share of stumbles and delays, now it looks as if studios will be joining the fight, this time over the distribution rights to The Crow property.

Most fans are not thrilled with the idea of a remake of The Crow, myself included and with news that Bradley Cooper was in talks for the lead role, I was not enthusiastic. My own opinions aside, the film has had its troubles getting into production. Now, it looks as if a lawsuit, filed by the Weinstein Brothers, has been filed against Relativity media regarding the distribution rights of The Crow property.

Bert Fields is repping Harvey and Bob's The Weinstein Co against Ryan Kavanaugh's Relativity Media seeking injunctive relief and claiming there's "a written contract signed by everybody" which gives the Weinsteins exclusive worldwide distribution rights on The Crow reboot.

The two parties had gone back and forth today before the suit was filed, trying to hammer out a deal, but ultimately, Mr. Kavanaugh would not agree to the deal and is looking to sell the rights to others. Obviously, if he does so, the buyers would only be getting a lawsuit in return. Relativity Media released the following statement in regards tot he suit:

"This is yet another typical litigation stunt from the Weinsteins who have a long history of threatening law suits with the sole purpose of intimidation. If served, Relativity will seek immediate dismissal. While we expect these types of antics from the Weinsteins, we are shocked that a lawyer of Mr. Fields' caliber would make such false, reckless and intentionally harmful statements to the press about Relativity and Mr. Kavanaugh. We intend to seek appropriate remedies for this misconduct. Clearly this is a feeble attempt to create a press stir and a malicious effort to interfere with Relativity's development of the project."

The remake is currently in pre-production with 28 Weeks Later director, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo set to direct. The original 1994 film brought in approximately $50 million and eventually became a cult classic and a favorite of many fans.

We really don't need a new Crow movie, we didn't need the multiple "sequels" that followed. But this just solidifies how great Brandon Lee was in the role, because with every new, mediocre at best, Crow incarnation we all go back to the classic and shout from our rooftops the superiority of Brandon Lee's portrayal!

Well I personally know the producer of the Crow series and he's probably gonna loose this fight. I hope they get a team that will respect the source material and not just reboot the franchise but give us something close to what James O'Barr had envisioned.

IF THEY DO IT IT HAS TO BE WAY DIFFERENT..BRANDON LEE MADE THAT ROLE A CULT FILM..IF YOU TRY TO DO IT IN THAT VIEN IT WONT WORK, IT WILL ALWAYS BE COMPARED. IF YOU MUST DO IT (AND HONESTLY YOU SHOULD LEAVE IT ALONE LIKE HEATH LEDGERS JOKER) DO IT DIFFERENT, AWAY FROM WHAT WE KNOW. YOU SHOULD LEAVE IT ALONE THOUGH...

Leave the Eric Draven story alone!!

Its Brandon Lee's final role... he died during the making of it!

If you want to make a crow movie there are plenty of other crow stories.

I don't want to sound like a troll but frick the Eric Draven reboot... I would like to see it as a stand alone film in remembrance of Brandon Lee.

Heh. I got a bit confused as I glanced at the header and read 'Rammstein' instead of 'Weinstein'.

Why not make the character fat, middle-aged and English and cast the Cure's Robert Smith in the role?

you know, I just have ZERO hope that they will do anything good with this. There's potential. But it lies in going back to the source material for a more accurate likeness. There's no way they would do that so it's just hopeless

@Mazoku- I agree. Use another character if you insist on a Reboot. Brandon Lee is Eric Draven. Period.

I wish they would stop raping this story line and using it as a medium for cut-rate films and c-list actors. The first one is the only one worth watching and the rest, including the horrible TV series should be erased from history.

I swear to god I will be protesting outside my local movie theater, with a bunch of my friends, if this gets made. At first I was excited about this being rebooted, because there has been a lot of technological advancements that would greatly improve this movie...But not with a horrible actor such as Bradly Cooper. I saw him in Midnight Meat-train and he almost ruined the whole thing; p.s. we haven't seen a sequel, want to know why? Cooper's horrible acting...Brandon Lee will forever be Eric Draven, and I wouldn't be surprised, if the actor who gets to redue what Brandon mastered, gets shot on set for trying to make this reboot...F*(k Hollywood, come up with something original...

1) Drop the director they have now, and get someone else *cough*me?*cough* or, another interesting choice: David Fincher.

2) Jared Leto for Eric Draven!!!!!!!!!

3) To everyone saying it shouldn't be touched: Brandon Lee does not own the title of the Crow, just like how Heath Ledger does not own the title of the Joker. Of course they're going to reboot it. It's Hollywood. I don't want to see them never again attempt to do the character. Would you never want them to put Joker in another Batman movie?

I say make it pretty damn close to the original graphic novel, in memory of Brandon Lee, and it wont look like it's ripping off the original film. Happy, now?

If they do decide to do another Crow Movie, then why not go for a female persepective point-of-view? You know let the female chractersics take-over, instead of the guy.

I'm saying, "Different story and of course cast, but make this different from the other's instead of a "Reboot" or in this case as it sounds to me: A Do-over? I beleive if you work with the ideal chracteristics of a female and then, throw in the light and darkness and the intentions he or she is. And in this case of my version would be a female, but the only two things to change is: The main character and the villians, keep the locations and add cool weapons, make it an R-rating and do it simiar to: "Sin City". Any questions feel free to ask?
