When The Flash raced into theaters earlier this year, the movie's Speed Force sequence immediately generated discussion among fans. Widely criticised for the poor visual effects and the decision to resurrect long-dead actors, there was one, in particular, which left fans scratching their heads.
While it was initially reported that The Flash TV star Teddy Sears played the Jay Garrick Flash, the actor later made it clear he was never contacted about appearing in the movie.
Since then, we've been left to speculate about who took on the role...and we finally have an answer! Talking to Frame.io Insider, The Flash Editor Jason Ballantine revealed he lent his likeness to this iteration of the Fastest Man Alive.
"[Andy Muschietti] wanted [Jay] as one of the characters and quite large on screen," he reveals. "And then DJ, our visual effects supervisor, said, 'Well, if we’re going to have a digital character that large on screen, then it would be better to have a real face just to help with the look of the shot.'"
"And so I stuck my hand up, my arm nearly flew off my shoulder, to volunteer to have an opportunity to have my face stuck on the original Flash."
Ballantine has previously worked as an Editor on movies like The King's Man, It, and The Great Gatsby. He doesn't have any acting credits to his name, but as Warner Bros. only needed his face for Jay, it's not like experience in that realm was necessary.
Still, The Flash not enlisting a known actor for this cameo is likely an indication of how rushed the Speed Force sequence was, especially when we have to believe Sears and John Wesley Shipp were readily available.
