Zack Snyder's Justice League was the movie we were supposed to watch in theaters way back in 2017, albeit with a few minor alterations and additions. Barry Allen's story was vastly different in that HBO Max release, with the Scarlet Speedster meeting Iris West and learning how to travel back in time... two changes it seems The Flash movie will completely ignore.
With screenings supposedly taking place for the movie, more details about how it plays out appear to be finding their way online.
It's now said that the latest cut of The Flash has completely removed any direct references to the SnyderVerse, with it made apparent the Fastest Man Alive has "never travelled back in time before and doesn't remember meeting Iris."
This will disappoint many fans, but any nods to Snyder's DCEU were supposedly taken out last year before DC Studios was formed.
What has James Gunn changed? Well, while Warner Bros. made some last-minute changes to restore Henry Cavill's Superman place in this shared world following his Black Adam cameo (original plans called for him to be permanently replaced by Supergirl), he's now gone, as is Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman.
The ending has also evolved and no longer sets up the planned Crisis on Infinite Earths event.
Worlds collide in The Flash when Barry uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past. But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to turn to.
That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian...albeit not the one he's looking for. Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry's only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?
The movie stars Ezra Miller, Sasha Calle, Michael Shannon, Ron Livingston, Maribel Verdu, Kiersey Clemons, Antje Traue, and Michael Keaton.
The Flash races into theaters on June 16.
