Over the past week or so, The Flash has dominated headlines after underperforming at the box office. Things don't look good for the latest DCEU movie heading into its second weekend, but both Michael Keaton and Sasha Calle definitely deserve to be praised for their work.
Keaton's return as Batman may not have been a box office draw, but the actor did a phenomenal job as the older Bruce Wayne. Calle, meanwhile, went from being a relative unknown to delivering a Supergirl who fans are now desperate to see take centre stage in DC Studios' Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
The New York Times recently spoke to Calle and specifically asked about her experience working with Ezra Miller. It wasn't a loaded question, but it was nonetheless one that Calle did her best to avoid answering.
"I spent a lot of time with my stunt team from the moment I arrived to the moment I left," the actress responded. "And it was incredible being with my stunt team. I can’t not talk about them. I swear to you, they were my family through and through."
That's quite a contrast to the praise heaped on Miller by The Flash's director and producer in an apparent effort to help moviegoers overlook the cotroversies.
In the same interview, Calle shared high praise for the star of Warner Bros. Discovery's cancelled Batgirl movie, Leslie Grace. "This whole ride I’ve been really blessed to be very close to Leslie Grace, who was Batgirl from DC, and Anthony Ramos, who is in the new 'Transformers' movie."
"They actually both did 'In the Heights” together, and I was not in that movie, but I am literally adopted into that little circle...this was a much harder experience for [Leslie] through everything that happened, she has been there for me a lot. I’m fortunate enough that I get to experience her as a friend."
"Obviously, it’s been a hard transition [since 'Batgirl' was cancelled]," Calle added. "There’s a lot of stuff that has happened within the world, and we’ve just really been there for each other."
As for her future as Supergirl, it appears she remains in the dark about whether her take on Kara Zor-El will be brought into the new DCU. "I don’t know. I hope to be playing her. I love her so much. [Muschietti doesn’t] know. Only the new bosses know."
These insights from Calle are definitely interesting and with so much uncertainty surrounding her future as Supergirl, she's lucky to have Grace there for support. Whatever happens, The Flash has put her on the map and we're sure plenty of big acting roles are now on the horizon.
The Flash is currently playing in theaters.
