A VFX artist who worked on The Flash has shared some insights into why the movie's CG imagery wasn't quite up to scratch, suggesting it might have been a rush job on Warner Bros.' part. Check it out!

No matter how you feel about The Flash (and the movie certainly has its fair share of fans), it's easy enough to understand why the VFX have come under fire.

Despite claims both those CG babies and the Speed Force's "Chronobowl" intentionally looked weird to better show what the world looked like through Barry Allen's eyes, we know many of you aren't buying it. After all, it's no secret that The Flash went through a number of last-minute reshoots.

In a video posted to TikTok, Zach Mulligan (The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Black Adam), a VFX artist who worked on The Flash, shed some light on why the movie's visuals fell short of expectations.

Explaining that VFX houses remain overworked, Mulligan says, "Artists are forced to work relentless hours, overtime almost every day, including weekends. If the VFX companies aren’t meeting the unrealistic expectations that these studios are setting, the risk losing out on future contracts, and there [are] only so many studios that are making superhero movies anymore."

"When you’re putting out this many projects with shorter turnarounds, the VFX will always look worse," he continued. "So if it looks like a VFX shot in The Flash was made in a week, it’s probably because it was."

The Flash ends with a huge cameo which we know was shot in January. DC Studios was responsible for adding that actor to the mix and, assuming the same is true for those Speed Force cameos, it's no wonder the movie looked a little subpar.

While studios have been known to improve VFX between a blockbuster's theatrical and home entertainment releases, that seems unlikely in this instance, especially after how much money has already been spent.

The Flash is currently playing in theaters.

@no_the_robot The bad CGI in #theflash is just the tip of the iceberg. Poor VFX in superhero movies is all too common, and theres a reason for it. Not every movie can be Avatar, but Marvel, DC, Warner Bros, Disney, and Sony can all do something about it. They just choose not to. #vfx #vfxartist #animation #marvel #dcuniverse #batman #nicolascagesuperman #greenscreen #Inverted ♬ original sound - No The Robot

Hahaha As those involved continue to make statements about the movie, this shit keeps going down the toilet.
rkshuttleworth - 6/24/2023, 1:47 AM
@Repian - umm, isn't what matters is that there are some people who aren't swayed by this stuff and enjoyed it? Sadly not enough. I read that it was popular at a drive-in theater close to me though and they added another showing.
abd00bie - 6/23/2023, 9:34 AM
why are people shitting where they eat? lol
UniqNo - 6/23/2023, 10:23 AM
@abd00bie - Haha, that's what I was thinking... like this guy is definitely fired now...
DTor91 - 6/23/2023, 10:25 AM
@abd00bie - Because it’s an overworked market that needs to be exposed and it’s work for hire anyway.
thedrudo - 6/23/2023, 9:37 AM
I guess I'm in the minority where I didn't mind the 'waterworld' look of the Speed Force/Chrono Bowl.

I get the hate but I do think Andy isn't lying when he says it was intentional. It's definitely a choice.
xfactor - 6/23/2023, 9:37 AM
This movie was not bad at all. I’m really not getting the hate here as it is a vast improvement on storytelling from the “dceu” ( I HATE calling it that) but as a wrap up to that abused port-a-potty universe this was a fitting entry. [frick] the Snyderverse for one last time, and on to better things.
P.s. I know Aquaman 2 is up next, but in all fairness, I’m up in the air about it. Part of me wants to complete it, the other part just wants the spoilers and post credits scene(s)
Chappers - 6/23/2023, 9:39 AM
@xfactor - It was absolutely horrible
xfactor - 6/23/2023, 9:40 AM
@Chappers - in what regard? Outside of Wonder Woman this is pretty much the only well put together film. The rest of that Snyder crap was that. Crap.
IronGenesis - 6/23/2023, 9:52 AM
@xfactor - You have to understand where you are. and who the author is @JoshWilding

Bag man for Disney and the MCU.

Case in point:

He hated The Flash Movie. Yet…it has a 66% on Rotten Tomatoes. So overall more liked it than didn’t. Yet, Wilding has posted how many “hit/slam” pieces on WB/The Flash since the movie opened?

Now flip that to MCU ‘Secret Invasion’. Which Wilding “loved”. Did you know that ‘Secret Invasion’ sits at 63% on RT and is now the WORST reviewed MCU Tv Show?

How many articles on the failure of ‘Secret Invasion’ by Wilding? Zero.

Again … you just have to recognize who runs the site and who they are biased for and against.
DarthAlgar - 6/23/2023, 10:01 AM
@IronGenesis - Most of the folks on here haven't even seen it, they're just jumping on the hate bandwagon like the little tools that they are.

Also, Wilding is in bed with the mouse. That's why all the bias. I thought that was common knowledge
xfactor - 6/23/2023, 10:02 AM
@IronGenesis - I’ve been seeing the numerous hit piece articles he’s been churning out, but I wasn’t aware of that (secret invasion’s RT AND his review) . But If that’s what he finds passable for entertainment than his taste is questionable at best.
dagenspear - 6/23/2023, 10:02 AM
@IronGenesis - Or some people can dislike both.
Solarkalel85 - 6/23/2023, 10:02 AM
@xfactor - went to see it last night with my son and we both loved it, class film
vectorsigma - 6/23/2023, 10:09 AM
@IronGenesis - wait for the mcu fans saying that these 2 products are not equal to make any comparison 😂
vectorsigma - 6/23/2023, 10:11 AM
@DarthAlgar - the poll here has also shown 80% of respondents at least gave it a 3/5
xfactor - 6/23/2023, 10:12 AM
@Solarkalel85 - awesome, I hope this thread gets flooded with the likes of us. I’m tired of seeing harsh treatment where it isn’t deserved
vectorsigma - 6/23/2023, 10:13 AM
@Solarkalel85 - good to hear. It gave me mcu phase 1-3 vibes.
CorndogBurglar - 6/23/2023, 10:18 AM
@IronGenesis - You're not entirely wrong. But let's be reasonable here.

The Flash (which I haven't seen yet, so won't say if it's good or not) is a tent pole feature film that has been in development for close to a decade. It was one of the first movies announced waaaaaaaaay back in the day. It was a main entry in the DCEU. But most importantly, it was a full story with a beginning, middle, and end.

We've gotten 1 episode of Secret Invasion lol. In a 6 episode series. We've seen one sixth of a full story.

It's not exactly fair to compare Rotten Tomatoes scores between The Flash and one sixth of a series.

But I don't disagree that the bias is strong. Even when Quantumania was failing at the box office I dont remember getting a bunch of negative articles about it.

CorndogBurglar - 6/23/2023, 10:20 AM
@vectorsigma - I'm and MCU fan and a DC fan. It's 100% not equal to compare RT scores of a complete product to one sixth of a product.
vectorsigma - 6/23/2023, 10:35 AM
@CorndogBurglar - i agree on that. So going by this logic, Mr Wilding's perfect rating is not credible for SI

And also, most MCU shows are at their worst in the middle
Matador - 6/23/2023, 10:41 AM
@DarthAlgar - Here's the thing why most of us are not supporting The Flash is all because we don't support Ezra The Grooming Pedo if it had been a different actor with shit CGI the story would be different.

Simple as that; the movie can burn down with all of WB/DC for all I care. They supported this and Ezra even Supergirl Calle can't even comment on how it was working with Ezra. Then you have the director and his wife saying they had their heads down and ignoring the situation to concentrate on work.

There's way too many factors on why this movie is also failing the majority of the people that didn't go watch it might have a different opinion but the people here that know why not to watch it is on their own merit.

Let me ask you this knowing full well what Ezra has done with a rap sheet as longer than The Hamburgler why did you go see The Flash?
xfactor - 6/23/2023, 10:57 AM
@vectorsigma - “most mcu shows are at their worst in the middle”.
This. All of this. With a few ( and I mean Few) exceptions the majority of the mcu shows have been stale to say the least. Coupled with a bunch of side characters the General audience doesn’t care for, it’s about time we came to this conclusion!
DarthAlgar - 6/23/2023, 11:31 AM
@Matador - When did I ever say I did?

The problem with Americans like you is you twisted cancel culture. You cancel something immediately without thinking about the others involved in this production. As if this entire film and it's inception was soley due to Ezra Miller.

Take into account the other people who put such effort into these films only to by shunned for something that was done by one individual person. Nevermind that Ezra is most likely done for.

Also, don't give me that pedo crap. You Americans nitpick what's pedo and what isn't. If a trans person was wearing nothing but a g-string and shaking their ass in the face of a toddler a lot of Americans wouldn't bat an eye.

You all are just a twisted breed of people.
Matador - 6/23/2023, 11:44 AM
@DarthAlgar - This has nothing to do with you.

Cancel culture for good reason this is not a Ezra is not a good guy his pretty much a live action villainy in terms. The production involved got payed for making this movie they cashed their checks. But supporting someone or rewarding someone for doing wrong things in life is not okay. Not sure what you were taught growing up by your parents but when we messed up we got grounded; so this sets up from learning right from wrong.

WB never took into account on what Ezra was or did all they thought about was money end of story to that.

Oh no Americans and Muslims in the U.S are not batting an eye it's not getting reported on the news as it should. Why are grown adult males dressed like strippers want an audience of little children?

No you seem twisted on right and wrong back in the day gay and transvettie stuff was left in an adult setting in a night club no underage kids. But now they want to parade they sexual status in the city with their dicks out in front of kids and they call it family friendly.

Your on the wrong side of mentality.
philinterrupted - 6/23/2023, 12:04 PM
@Matador - list Ezra’s rap sheet.
Matador - 6/23/2023, 12:17 PM
@philinterrupted - I ain't your Google go look him up yourself.
