A Little More From Stellan Skarsgard On Why He Joined The Cast Of Thor!

In an interview about his role in the English-language adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and his newest Swedish-language film, A Somewhat Gentle Man, the actor was once again quizzed about his role in Marvel Studios' Thor and what it was that made him decide to accept a role in a comic book movie.

"I chose 'Thor' because of director Kenneth Branagh. The script was nice and we got to rehearse and talk to the writers and do some collaborating in the process to make it fit us. So I had a very happy time on it. What I always try to do is immediately do something I just haven’t done so I get variation in my life. I’ve made about 90 films and if I did the same thing over and over again I would be bored by now. I try to pick different films, I go and do those big ones and having done that I can usually afford to go and do some really small obscure films and experiment a little."

Thor stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston and Anthony Hopkins with a release date set for May 4, 2011 in 3D!

I was a big Skarsgardian when Alexander was in the running and honestly when they picked Hemsworth I was like, "Is Marvel blind? AS is perfect for Thor." But I ended up warming to the idea of Hemsworth and I think he will be amazing as Thor. He definitely has the look and size...something I think Skarsgard may have had a hard time with...putting on that much muscle.

This is coming from a man that covered himself in barnacles for a crappy pirate movie. Hopefully Thor is 1000 times better than that crispy crap.

Haha, that's true LEE - I wish actors would stop with all these BS reasons and just confess that they join the cast of these blockbuster movies for the cash and recognition! I'm sure that stuff like the script and director influences their decisions, but there's only a select few actor who I think have their choice of projects. Regardless, Thor will indeed be awesome! :)

"I go and do those big ones and having done that I can usually afford to go and do some really small obscure films and experiment a little." Thor is a really small obscure film? Just because it isn't one of your Oscar nominated roles doesn't mean its small and obscure bud.

@Sto0pidpenguinpro: I doubt he was referring to Thor with that part of his comment. Thor would be one of those "big ones" he referred to.

Alexander is taller than Chris, and he has more of a Thor look I think (at least potential of a more 616 Thor look). However Chris have a deeper voice, is younger and probably are more endowed to faster gaining muscle mass in the gym.

Anyhow, great that Alexander's dad got a part.
