EDITORIAL: What Thor 3 should be

The ending of Thor: The Dark World calls for a third Thor movie and here is where I hope the next Thor movie goes.

There will be SPOILERS for Thor: The Dark World so do not read this article if you have not read the movie.

At the end of Thor: The Dark World we see that Loki has not only survived the battle on Malekith, but has somehow replaced Odin on the throne of Asgard. It would also seem that Odin has somehow died according to Anthony Hopkins and Alan Taylor. I say that this ending absolutely leads to a third Thor movie where Loki is once again the main threat. To keep this from being a repeat of the first Thor movie, however, I have come up with a movie that really ups the ante.

The movie would at first seem loosely based on the first Loki miniseries where he is ruling Asgard with an iron hand. The difference is he has not defeated Thor because the God of Thunder is living on earth with Jane and fighting with the Avengers. To keep Thor from finding out his treachery Loki has killed Heimdall, and replaced him with someone loyal to him who lets no one pass out of Asgard into the other Nine Realms except Loki. However, it is plaguing Loki that he has only accomplished half his goal with Odin's death, and that his brother still lives and may yet end his rule.

Then Loki somehow finds about an ancient prophesy in which he is supposed to bring about Ragnarok, the end of all things. Thinking this to be the perfect way to finally be rid of his brother, and as a way to rebuild an Asgard and a Midgard in his own image, Loki happily accepts this. So he decides to team up with three of Asgard's most dangerous foes:

1. Surtur

This is an enemy Loki has teamed up with in the past to bring about Ragnarok. Also Thor fans would already be familiar with him from the video game Thor: God of Thunder. Also this is the enemy that many fans like myself will somehow appear in the last Thor movie. Why not in this way.

2. Mangog

This a team-up that would make its way into the movie from the Thor video game. Also this being is pure rage making him stronger than the Hulk even. It could certainly give Thor a run for his money.

3. Midgard Serpent

The midgard serpent is an enemy that has recently made his way out of the comics and into the TV show Avengers Assemble after being controlled by Doctor Doom. What many may not know is that the Midgard Serpent is a child of Loki in the comics. This could easily lead to a flashback of Loki's early life. Also this serpent is known for severely wounding Thor in the Fear Itself story.

With his team assembled Loki would attack Asgard, but not before wreaking havoc on earth to reveal to Thor and Jane that he is alive and that he is going to destroy Asgard. Loki then challenges Thor to try and stop him upon which a short fight ensues leading to the death of Jane and Darcy which prompts Thor to return to Asgard.

However, Thor sees he cannot do this alone and decides to team up with an Avenger or two specifically Hulk or Iron Man since Cap, Hawkeye, and Black Widow here. With the heroes returning to Asgard to prevent Ragnarok the most epic battle since The Avengers ensues. In the end the monsters are defeated and for his sins Thor kills Loki ending his threat once and for all. Thor then sees he has to remain on Asgard as it's king in order to rebuild the kingdom. In a post-credits scene Iron Man and/or Hulk would return to Earth where they see the world is under attack by Thanos and the Chitauri.

Avengers 3 is not going to be Thanos vs Avengers it's going to be Masters of Evil! Everyone keeps coming back to Ragnarok but why? They could still do like 3 movies before Ragnarok by using Thor's other enemies. If they redeemed themselves Marvel could still do so many epic Thor movies. Something akin to Lord of the Rings but more alien like the movies have been. Just leave earth alone and explore the rest of the Nine Realms, please.

Thor 3 is too early for ragnarok. The seeds need to be sewn before hand with the introduction of Balder, Enchantress, Executioner, Surtur and Hela. That's too many characters for one movie. It needs to wait for thor 4 at least

@Melkaticox Acording to logic! When Avengers 2 comes out there's not going to be any doubt in anyone's mind that any film with them is going to be a huge money maker and Marvel wont let them go any time soon. Like Feige said Thanos is the big finale, so Avengers 3 is not going to be the last movie and Thanos wont be the villain of that entry. Now, that doesn't mean that Masters of Evil are going to be the villains of that movie but I still think that they will.

@AlphaDog: Hey genius, Marvel has introduced Thanos, giving us Guardians of the Galaxy and have already given us two infinity stones. Where in logic does it say that, Thanos won't be the villain in Avengers 3? It's clear as [frick]ing day, dipshit.

Any who, I said this in another Thor 3 article. Surtur and the fire demons for the villains and have it be a war movie. Thor and everyone else on Asgard, etc. all have to team up to go to war. Introduction of Balder, more development for Sif, Fandral, Hogun and Volstagg. More development on Thor and Loki's relationship, especially once Thor finds out about Odin's death.

@MAC: No to Enchantress, Hela, etc. Not interesting enough, especially for Thor 3. Darcy is fine, she's just comic relief (I find her character funny), Jane is also fine as she is Thor's love interest and I feel they are giving their relationship a little bit more development which we will obviously see more of in Thor 3, Selvig is fine and actually **spoiler** helped (with Jane) Thor defeat Malekith and Ian is just filler. I'm not interested in characters like Beta Ray Bill, Enchantress and all of them. But, that's just my taste.

I think that:

1) The Infinity Saga should be introduced. That is when Hela took a portion of Odin himself (while he was asleep) and created this evil Entity called Infinity. This Entity was so powerful that entire Solar Systems were banishing faster that the speed of light across the edge of the Universe. Even Galaxies were banishing at speed beyond human imagination. This Entity was so powerful that Earth and Asgard were affect in a extremely catastrophic fashion (Giant Earth-Quakes, etc.) even though the Entity was countless millions of light years away. Loki, Hela, the Enchantress, etc. could team up to take over the Universe.

2) Surtur or the oldest Elemental in the Universe. Surtur who stands over a 1000 ft. tall (that dwarfs Godzilla by more than 500 ft.) creates the Twighlight Sword in the middle of a Galaxy in order to to attack Asgard and destroy the entire Universe.
Surtur has a vast legion of fire demons at his command.

3)The Mangog- a warrior race that conquered many Galaxies and encompasses a total of about a billion, billion warriors that inhabited a thousand, thousand worlds. They dare attack Asgard, and Odin as punishment fused the Entire race within this Entity call the Mangog. An unstoppable creature whose strength and power is further increased by rage and hate, and whose hell bent in destroying Asgard and the entire Universe by unsheathing the Odin-Sword- a Giant Sword whose great power keeps the physical Laws of the Universe from collapsing and falling apart. The more he is attacked the more powerful he becomes- like he needs further strength and power than what he possess...

4) Ego the Living Planet. The ONLY living Planet Entity in the entire Universe. Ego wants to reshape the Universe by systematically changing Planets and evolving them into Living Beings with different separate personalities, but united as a collective... He sends these incredible powerful beings (that are part of himself called Ego-Primate) that stands over 70 ft. tall to many different worlds to create these Cosmic Planetary Evolutions... he knows that Asgard will stand in his way so he will send many of these Ego Primes to the 9 worlds to prepare a final all out attack on Asgard by Ego himself...

@EdgyOutsider I just said why it didn't make sense jackass. And if you need more than just look at the rest of the article i referenced. In it Feige talked about how Walter Simonson teased Surter for years and that that's what they would do with him. I'm sure he meant a lot more than 6 movies (Avengers, Thor:TDK, Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers 2, and two other movies in Phase 3). It's just like last year when everyone thought that he would be the villain of Avengers 2.

@AlphaDog: Not everyone cause I never for one second believed that, Thanos would be the villain in Avengers 2. Sorry I snapped, I've just had a bad day and I shouldn't have taken it out on ya.

I think Avengers3 will have a universe threatening story with Thanos and the Infinity Guantlet so having a Ragnarok story in Thor3 in the lead up might steal some of it's thunder.

@Alphadog: The mid-credits scene for Thor: The Dark World clearly proves you wrong.

@TheLokey1: If there is even a Thor 4.

@vandinejd The mid credits scene proves nothing. So what if the Collector is trying to find the stones. They're just setting up the plot for like the Fourth movie. They're not gonna have enough characters to fight Thanos by the time of Avengers 3. The only character they're gonna have at that point that could pose a serious threat to Thanos is Doctor Strange and he probably isn't even gonna be that experienced. Thanos can control reality. If you seriuosly want them to make him fight our heroes so soon then you don't care that much about the character. The only way for them to defeat him at that point is if Marvel seriously downgrades his powers and that would make him so much less threatning.
CapitanAmerika2
CapitanAmerika2 - 11/14/2013, 7:53 PM
@Alphadog: We don't even know if there will even be a fourth Avengers movie. Most of the actors contracts like Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth's contracts run out after the third Avengers movie. So, if they end the Avengers series with a third movie it would make sense to end it with a bang and the Avengers fighting Thanos would be the way to go since almost every Marvel movie since Avengers 1 would be leading to that point.

Alphadog - 11/14/2013, 11:52 PM
@vandinejd I already said in my second comment why Marvel isn't going to let go of the franchise so soon. And if they want another movie they can just use other characters. The Avengers roster is always changing and by the time of Avengers 3 they'll have a lot of other characters that can replace Captain America or Thor. Let's face it those aren't the characters people went to the movie for. They're a bonus but not the main focus.
CapitanAmerika2
CapitanAmerika2 - 11/15/2013, 10:46 AM
That is not true. I went to the Avengers movie just for Captain America. Also you cant have an Avengers team without Cap.

I don't like the Ragnarok idea at all. I would like to see the Celestials storyline. Some of the most powerful beings in the universe here to judge the earth. Probably shows just how powerful Thor is but also shows just how powerful another species of life in the universe. It would also introduce Thors real mother ( mother earth) hence why Thor is so drawn to protect the Earth. Also why he is so much stronger and more powerful than other Asgardians. Its a big story so I don't know if it could be done in one movie. Or maybe a movie where Asgard ruled the earth. storyline
