The first trailer for Marvel's Thor: Love and Thunder was released earlier today, and while it was relatively light on major reveals (when it comes to stuff we didn't already know, at least), there were a few intriguing shots in there that warrant a closer look.

The teaser opens with a flashback to the Odinson as a child, and as he runs we get a quick glimpse of a teenage Thor sporting a Jack Kirby-inspired costume. This will probably be the only time we see the comic-accurate outfit, but it's still a nice little nod to the character's roots.

Next, we see Thor shedding those extra pounds he gained after the events of Avengers: Infinity War as he welcomes peace into his life and attempts to put his superhero days behind him.

The God of Thunder is clearly enjoying his time with the Guardians of the Galaxy (even if he continues to rub Star-Lord the wrong way), but we know a certain God Butcher will soon force him to take up Stormbreaker again and set off for a confrontation with the villain.

Christian Bale's enigmatic Gorr doesn't actually appear, but we do get a shot of Zeus (Russell Crowe), who many believe will end up as his first victim. We also drop in on New Asgard, and it doesn't look like Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) is getting very much out of her role as King! Maybe if she had a Queen to rule by her side?

We also have a wide shot of Thor and Korg which has led to speculation that a third character has been edited out of the left side of the screen. Marvel Studios has done this in the past, so it's entirely possible. Lady Sif, perhaps? Or could it be a certain horse-faced alien fans have been hoping to see for many years?

Of course, they save the biggest reveal to the end, as we get a first look at Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) wielding Mjölnir as The Mighty Thor. The God of Thunder looks surprised to see his old flame here, so there's a good chance this sequence will mark her grand entrance (in-costume, at least).

This film looks beautiful. Man, Taika Waititi can bring the feels.🥲

@AmazingFILMporg - Honestly, so glad that MCU decided to ditch the washed out aesthetic Joss Whedon brought for phase1/2. Each Marvel has been looking more and more beautiful than the last in this new phase.

@aurorsand146 -

Totally agree. Remember when the haters use to say MCU films looked like a TV show?

@AmazingFILMporg - I mean... they weren't wrong. Heck, a lot of TV shows on more prestigious services like HBO look ages better than a lot of MCU content. But thankfully, they've started opening up the style more with stuff like Taika's movies, Eternals and Shang-Chi.
