Who Voiced The Hulk In THOR: RAGNAROK? Mark Ruffalo Weighs In On How The Jade Giant Was Brought To Life

Lou Ferrigno voiced The Hulk in both Avengers movies but did he provide the voice of the Green Goliath in Thor: Ragnarok? Mark Ruffalo explains how this talkative version of the hero was brought to life.

The Hulk's vocabulary used to be as puny as the puny God he smashed in The Avengers but Thor: Ragnarok changes that with a far more talkative version of the iconic hero. However, now that he has more than just a few lines of dialogue, some changes have been made behind the scenes and Mark Ruffalo has now confirmed that he alone is voicing the character. Previously, Lou Ferrigno did that.

It makes sense that Ruffalo would take over, though, as it means he can deliver both the motion capture parts of the performance alongside the Jade Giant's dialogue on set with his fellow actors.

"When Hulk is speaking, that’s me. That’s me on the day, in my motion capture suit, and they’re capturing my voice." Despite taking Ferrigno's job in the MCU now The Hulk can talk, the actor went on to make it clear he's thankful to him for inspiring his vocal performance here. "That’s who I watched playing the Hulk growing up. It’s definitely a nod to you, Lou. You influenced that."

That means Ruffalo did everything, including performing the roars and fighting moves in The Grandmaster's gladiatorial arena. "I tried to do it all, the stuff I’m physically capable of. I can’t jump through the air like [him]!" Have you seen Thor: Ragnarok? What did you think of his performance?

@TheManWithoutFear - Sounded too much like him. They should've edited it more.

FIRST.

Saw it last night. It was good and funny, though a little bit too funny and never took itself to serious.

@Mankzin2 - I felt the exact same, just one or 2 "tearjerker" scenes would have made it a more well rounded film that hit EVERY note it tried to!

I did wonder this last night watching it, with that much dialogue I assumed it had to be Ruffalo, glad to see this change. Had been waiting for a real talking Hulk for far too long.

That's good. Ferrigno's involvement in the voice was always nice, for the few words he got to say, but it does the Banner/Hulk relationship better if it's Ruffalo all the way.

It was a near-perfect adaptation of of classic 70s Savage Hulk.

Hulk is finally a living, breathing CHARACTER.

Thoughts, feelings, emotions. It was so satisfying to see onscreen, despite being such a small thing. It made such a difference.

Seriously, watching the film, all I thought was "why didn't this happen sooner?"

I can't wait to see hulk and Rocket in scenes together, that should be very entertaining. Gonna see Ragnorak tonight.

I honestly wish they would have kept Lou, it sounded a bit too much like Ruffalo's voice edited to sound like the Hulk than a separate character, if that makes sense.

@Jecharius - No that makes perfect sense, I actually really dislike how the hulk sounded in general. They should have kept Lou or gotten Rick D. Wasserman from the Planet Hulk animated film. Those two have given near perfect voice representations of the Hulk. I dont know Ruffalo sounded like he was trying too hard or that he was doing caricature of Lou's Hulk.

@devilleonx - I'm not even sure if he was changing his voice much at all, or if it all was edited afterwards. Too me it sounded like how a fan film would sound.
All things considered, I still rate Ragnarok as one of the MCU's best films, but this just bugged me a bit.

FRIDAY AM UPDATE: Thor: Ragnarok delivered the seventh largest preview gross for a title in the Marvel Cinematic Universe last night, bringing in $14.5 million, which is just behind the $15.4 million Spider-Man: Homecoming brought in earlier this year, en route to a $117 million debut. A list of all preview grosses for MCU titles is just below.

This film was just a huge gust of fresh air. The Hulk actually having personality, Thor being more charismatic. Much needed. I lobed this film. And i do like how they laid the groundwork of the Banner/Hulk dynamic.

Well, with all due respect, Ferrigno hadn't even actually been the VOICE of Hulk since 'TIH' with Norton.

Ferrigno's voice was grafted together with Ruffalo's for all of the grunts & roars, however Hulk's line, "puny God" is solely spoken by Ruffalo.

So really, there's nothing new here.

Seeing 'T:R' in about two hours. Yippee!!
