We recently learned that a new Transformers movie is on the way from writer Marco Ramirez (The Defenders) and director Angel Manuel Soto (Charm City Kings). That's not the only new Autobots adventure we're getting, though, because Creed II director Steven Caple Jr. and John Wick: Chapter 2 writer Joby Harold have their own robots in disguise project in the works.
That's the one we're talking about today, as the movie has now added another lead star in the form of Judas and the Black Messiah and Project Power star Dominique Fishback.
Deadline broke the news about the casting, and the actress now joins Hamilton and In The Heights star Anthony Ramos. While he was the frontrunner for the lead male role from the start, it's said that Paramount Pictures took their time meeting with a number of actresses before Fishback won over the studio thanks to an impressive screen test in which she displayed heaps of chemistry with Ramos (they've been friends for years).
There are no specific character details yet, but the trade notes that Darnell Metayer and Josh Peters are currently rewriting Harold's screenplay.
In moving on from Michael Bay's vision for Transformers, it seems Paramount Pictures is looking to take the franchise in a fresh direction. That hopefully means exploring different locations and time periods, as Bumblebee definitely benefitted from taking that Autobot to an unfamiliar setting.
We'll hopefully have more to share on this one soon, but it's definitely refreshing to see Paramount turn to some diverse voices in order to tell more of these Transformers stories.
