Its a good action movie, for sure, those 2+hrs went by and I did not even realise it. The CGI was amazing, Megan Fox is HOT, it was very funny and no one can complain about not having enough bots up there.
HOWEVER
My issue with it was how peripheral the Autobots seemed. I mean there was very little face time, let alone character development for any of the Autobots (cheesy lines from various characters here and there) except for Prime. Which to me, is in a way, is its saving grace. Sure there was a focus on those slightly annoying twins (look I understand the robots mimic Earth accents but the big teeth and cross eyes? that was too much for me), even Bumblebee had limited face-time following Sam around.
Megatron did not seem like the Big Bad anymore, he almost seemed too subservient to the Fallen for me.
It did feel like the 80s cartoon at points when a plethora of nameless Decepticons(I say nameless but they obviously have names and the prequel comics would explain a whole heap more of origins) would arrive and start fighting.
The storyline was quite jumpy, there was an obvious direction but I felt there were many holes in the plotlines. TF1 had a lot of plot holes too so we can forgive that.
Jetfire as an old guy? sure that combination with Optimus was great, possibly could have shown the whole thing from more angles but Jetfire (yes yes no energon he got old) was TOO human for me. As were the twins.
Funny, very funny but sometimes Crudity and rude jokes were a little OTT, even more so than TF1, it felt like trying too hard to recapture that non-sensical humour from the first. Having said that it was still ridiculously funny.
Lastly the robots seemed to have lost their 'soul' a bit, I had little to no emotional connection to the bots unlike the first one which I did with each and every Autobot. Is that the price for having that many bots on screen? perhaps.
It was a great movie and I will watch it 2 more times at least BUT I wish the story focused on the Transformers with the humans as secondary characters rather than feeling it was all from a human point of view taking place in the Transformer story.
So thats my not as short as I thought it would be review.
Loved it.. wished Prime and the boys had more face time.
