Transformers ROTF Co-Writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci Say The Sequel Is Darker.

Is the Transformers Franchise going Dark for success?

Sci-Fi wire had the interview with the co-writers of one of the biggest franchise releases we will see this summer.

"Actually, I think you'll find that it has all the same tone of the first movie," Kurtzman said. "The story's a little smoother, and it's a little bit darker, so it does dip in there a little bit, but it has all the same humor, if not more than the first movie."

What could this mean? Could maybe Prime not make it through this next one?

I'm surprised Prime didn't die in the last one... Kept getting his @$$ kicked, while the rest of them seemed to do pretty good in their fights...

It's part of the TransFormers Mythos, so Optimus biting the big one won't be a big surprise for me.

Then they'll have "TransFormers 3: The Return of Optimus Prime" for the Summer 2012.

Prime will save us from Unicron! :)

Not Taco Truck Rodimus Prime. lol

Well, Optimus was killed in the 1986's "Transformers the Movie" so I wouldn't be surprised if they do the same in this movie...

Optimus is going down

Hate to say it

I say OP and Megatron both kill each other in a fight...for the 3rd one bring back OP, introduce U. Magnus and have Galvatron and Unicron

Michael Bay could blow up SO MUCH SHIT with those characters!!!

Ohhhhh the possibilites....

I am sure to be pretty alone on this, but I liked Rodimus Prime. I liked the coming of age of the reluctant rebelious youthful leader who has to step up in the shoes of the greatest Autobot Leader there has ever been. He starts out as a super hot rod hot head and then gets the matrix in him and turns into a hot rod RV who commands victory. Thats freakin awesome. They turned him into a total douche bag in the cartoon though, always crying about how he'll never be Prime enough to be like Optimus. I don't think Rodimus will happen though, most fans hate him.

They need to kill off Prime in the final movie. Make it the very last scene where the autobots say farewell and launch Prime's body into deep space, never to be seen again.

Maybe he dies after he sacrifices himself in order to stop Unicron from destroying Earth.

You can't just make Prime die for nothing; you need to make it a note-worthy death; something memorable.

why do people complain about the humor in the first one, i thought it was freaking hilarious. when bumblebee keeps playing different songs in that one scene. and the air freshner that say's bee-otch.....priceless!!!!!

If they do kill off Optimus which I think they will judging from all the scenes of him getting his ass handed to him in that trailer that Bay sent out, that they at least bring him back to life in the third one to save the day.

I dont want Optimus Prime to die, if he does that means they will most likely redesign him for the next 1 when he comes back and I love the way he looks.
THEHAWK

I think the best way to kill off Prime would be to have him and Galvatron kill each other in a grand battle in the last movie. The Autobots and Decepticons join to gether at the last minute to defeat Unicron, the embodyment of evil. They beat him, of course, and they realize that as long as the two of them exist, there will always be hatred and conflict. The transformers need a singlr leader under which they must unite.

They could have a duel on the remains of the defeated Unicron. Prime and Galvatron fight to the death. Galvatron falls, Prime is mortally wounded and name Hot Rod as his successor.

That's one way to do it.

BarneyStinson - im totally with you in regards to the humor in the first movie. Those stunts he played with Sam on the radio as he was driving Mikaela home was priceless! The only thing i didnt like was Turturo's character... too over the top. But one minor thing cant bring a whole movie down.

Transformers 1 was awesome and im freakin EXCITED to see part 2 already! Whether PRime survives or not (i dont think he will survive), this movie's gonna rock!

You guys saw Megatron(the new version) sidekick Prime in the new trailer? swwweeeeet!

@THEHAWK: A passing of the Matrix of Leadership and the rise of Rodimus Prime you say? As long as Unicron is there, I'm with ya.
THEHAWK
THEHAWK - 4/24/2009, 8:47 PM
Yeah, and it would lead to the possibility of a new movie series, Headmasters, Beast Wars? Beast Wars would be sweet, and if Bay does it we could get to see Magan Fox in a cave woman outfit. Sweet.... What was i talking about again?

Yeah Myth, I think that would be a great way to end the trilogy, a "passing the torch moment", though I kinda consider the Matrix as more of a "passing the Mark of Kain" since all of those who weild it are placed under such a strain and peril.

I know its part of the mythos, but it really doesn't make sense for prime to die in this version. In the universe that Michael Bay set up, If Prime dies, the war is over, none of the other Autobots can stand up to the Decepticons. In the first movie, Bumblebee beat Barricade and Prime beat Bonecrusher, thats all the Autobots had. It took Jazz, Ratchet and Ironhide just to incapacitate "Devastator" who was beat with help from the army, and the Army took out Blackout alone.

On the Decepticon side, Starscream blew Bumblebee's legs off and layed a major smackdown on Ratchet and Ironhide at the same time by himself. Megatron literally ripped Jazz(autobot's second in command) in half and and had his way with Optimus Prime in the final fight.

And with a butt-load of more Decepticons(including the real devastaror) in this one plus the ones who "died" in the first movie coming back the autobots apparently have Jetfire(falling apart), The Twins, RC and Sideswipe for back-up. Who, unless they can go super-saijin, are about as strong as the autobots in the first film. Its already an uphill battle for the autobots, who Im guessing will get significant help frome the armed forces again, but if the strongest autobot dies, there's no way the rest stand a chance... Matrix of leadership or not. Besides, though Bay is obviously keeping the majority of the film's details a secret, there's no reason to even think that Hot Rod or Ultra Magnus are even in this movie. And, in the mythos, they are as important to the "Death of Prime" storyarc as Prime's death itself...

In short, just because it happened in Transformers G1 and seeing Prime get his but kicked in the preview is no reason to think he's gonna die. A) As many people on this site have already pointed out, Michael has already deviated far from the source material in his adaptation, why would he stick to it now? B) Prime got his ass handed to him by Megatron in Bay's first movie too, and he didn't die...

@HAWK - I'm liking your Galvatron/Prime story! I do have a sense that Prime could die in this movie but there's more logical thinking telling me he wont die...yet!

Like you said, the autobots need a leader, if Prime dies he needs to leave a successor and if that is anyone but Hot Rod fans will be pissed! But even if Hot Rod is introduced in this movie it's too big a leap from new-comer to leader in one movie.

Just thought whilst typing! Prime COULD die in this and hand over the matrix to someone else at the end. Then in T3 we find that the matrix isn't doing it's thing for the new leader and it "chooses" Hot Rod, like the cartoon movie (I think, it's been a while since I've seen it).

i've seen that are some who wants to see optimus prime dead but the autobot who is gonna die in this film is a rookie who joins with the autobots in this film and is ARCEE... i know that some may be sad that isn't optimus but without him who would leader the autobots in the next film then maybe he will die sacrificing himself to save the autobots and humans but is Michael Bay choice but i hope that optimus stay alive.

THEPROGRAM-

Yea, that was the only thing that bothered me. Of course the "black" autobot is a break-dancin', jive-talkin', wreck-loose who ends up getting himself killed!

But hey, at least we were represented! From what i could tell there wasn't a Latino autobot!

I heard they are bringing him back tho, so that's cool.....let's just hope they don't kill him again!

THEHAWK - Not just a clever name hey? You don't miss a trick do you!

Talontd

They'll bring him back but change his name to "token". To top it off they'll probably have him in a wheelchair, convert to scientology (he IS a robot after all), apply for asylum and fit into any other minority group you can think of. That should cover the bases.

Yeah Howlett, I got the name in High School cause I never missed a pass. But I will try and find a pic of the Matrix and post it.

Yeah I was pissed they killed Jazz, I liked him. His death was meaningless, if Bay killed anyone it should have been Bumblebee, cause we had an atachment to the character and would have appreciated his death more. But I guess Bay had to go with the action movie system "The black guy dies first, after the gay guy, ,the kids making out and, the mean hot sluty chick." I think thats the order.
version4
version4 - 4/26/2009, 1:16 PM
Talontd you racist!!!!!!!!!! Nah, just kidding! It was going a little far, though! LOL

If that did happen though, you better believe Al Sharpton would be standing in front of Michael Bay's house with a bullhorn within minutes of the first screening!

As I've stated before, I love Jazz.... the CHARACTER.... but as soon as I found out Eddie Winslow was voicing him, I immediatly began rooting for the decepticon in every scene he was in.you gotta admit, that was a classic death scene...

Hawk, i think thats the right order!
