TRANSFORMERS: RISE OF THE BEASTS Set Video Reveals A First Look At Optimus Prime's New G1-Inspired Design

A new Transformers: Rise of the Beasts set video reveals our first look at Optimus Prime in his vehicular form, while we also have a sneak peek at Scourge and another mystery Autobot or Decepticon...

Cameras are currently rolling on Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, and Optimus Prime is also rolling out through the streets of Brooklyn, New York. As you can see below, the iconic Autobot appears to have a new G1-inspired design, and while we don't know how he'll look in his robot form, chances are it will more along the lines of what we saw in Bumblebee than Michael Bay's movies.

Despite struggling at the box office, Bumblebee - which definitely returned to the franchise's classic roots - was the most critically acclaimed instalment of this franchise to come along in some time.

Very little is known about Transformers 7, but it is expected to be based on the classic Beast Wars animated series. That means the likes of Optimus Primal and Rhinox will take centre stage, but as this set video confirms, there will still be some room for classic Autobots (and Decepticons, we're sure).

Earlier this year, we spoke to Dexter alum Luna Lauren Velez who confirmed she will appear in the movie. "I'm doing Transformers 7 which I'm very excited about," the actress confirmed. "I play Anthony Ramos' mom in that film, so there's some exciting stuff coming up."

Check out this Transformers: Rise of the Beasts set video below along with a photo that offers a glimpse of Scourge and another unidentified vehicle we're assuming is an Autobot:

@dragon316 - less "popular or not", more "should have been this way from the start".

Eh, who am I kidding? I bet the real Optimus will be little more than a cameo in this movie...

What does a bot gotta do to get this franchise properly rebooted? They're going to drag down my robo-furries by tying them up into this zombie continuity.

@Spock0Clock - if g1 is that popular with NEW FANS bumblebee would have billion easy

So yet again following the Michael bay school of thought. Scourge was the commander of the sweeps which are all planes not trucks. Deceptions are aerial vehicles. Autobots are road vehicles. Also scourge didn’t exist until unicron arrived and converted megatron into galvatron. Once again ignore the source material. The best franchise is marvel because it sticks to its source material at its most basic level. Unlike all other franchises.

@Vampyre75 - This Scourge appears to be more based on the one from the 2001 Transformers: Robots in Disguise cartoon.

@Vampyre75 - Decepticons weren't aerial vehicles in Bay movies. Decepticons were MOSTLY military and police vehicles. They had plenty of road vehicles and tanks.

Autobots were mostly civilian vehicles.

And Marvel certainly makes changes similar to one's you're upset about in Transformers.

@CorndogBurglar - This is exactly my argument you think the source material is the Bay verse which didn’t honour any type of material before it. Go back to the original source material which were the eighties cartoons. Decepticons we’re all different forms of aerial aircraft starscream was an f14 tomcat. Megatron was a rifle which was fired by sound wave which was a cassette recorder. There was no emergency vehicle decepticons. Autobots were vehicles be it a working vehicle such as a truck like optimus. A passenger vehicle as in bumblebee being a beetle. Sports cars as in sideswipe being a Lamborghini and a police vehicle as in prowl. During the season they introduced the aerialbots as planes and Dinobots for the autobots. The decepticons then introduced the stunticons as different vehicles and the insecticons.

And no marvel does not make changes they may update to meet today’s standards but the honour the original source material and you can see different bits of there current stories direct from the pages of comics. Civil war being one whereby to make it more akin to the source material by marvel going to Sony in order to bring spiderman into the story as he was also pivotal in the comic

@CaptainFlash17 - which is a rip off copy of motor master from the stunticons era

@Vampyre75 - For Transformers I wasn't talking about the old show. I'm talking about the Bay movies. They weren't all aerialbots in the Bay movies. And Transformers did their updates to meet today's standards, also. Starscream was an F-15 Eavle in G1, not a F-14. Starscream is an F-22 now, which makes sense.

Soundwave was a tapedeck in G1 that sent out smaller tapes of other animal Transformers. In the Bay movies, Soundwave is a satellite that also sends out smaller animal transformers. It wouldn't make sense to have him be a tapedeck or portable CD player because people don't use those anymore.

And like I said, in the Bay movies, the Decepticons were not all aerialbots. They had a police car. A tank. And other sports cars in the sequels.

I'm not defending the Bay movies, they are horrible and the robot designs were terrible. But their vehicle forms are not anything that needs to be complained about because it's the 80's anymore. What sense would it make to have them transform into things from the 80's when the movie is taking place in the 2000's and 2010's?

And those are exactly the kind of changes Marvel makes to their characters also. Iron Man never even fought his worst enemy from the source material and instead Mandarin is Shang Chi's father? That is not honoring the source material at all. Iron Man created Ultron? Whiplash and Crimson Dynamo were combined into one character. Thanos killed half the universe to save it from overpopulation? Taskmaster is a totally different person who only had powers because of technology?

I could go on and on, but just the things I've mentioned are big changes. Arguably much bigger than the aesthetic changes to the Transformers that you are using.

@Vampyre75 - Also, how was Spider-Man pivotal in the Civil War movie? He showed up and helped fight once. That was it. None of his importance from the comics transferred over to the movie. In fact, he was unnecessary in the movie. The Movie would have been 100% the same without Spider-Man. You can't take Spidey out of the comic story without fundamentally changing the story and its events.

What's this?
Prequel? Reboot? Remake?
Sequel of the prequel or prequel of the sequel spin off or prequel reboot spin off sequel?

@IcePyke - Unfortunately looking like a sequel.. just from the actress cast in it saying “I’m in Transformers 7” but maybe she doesn’t really know 😂

That is pretty much perfect!

I was a bit disappointed that Bumblebee didn’t do as well at the box office as it should’ve. In my mind it was the best Transformers movie so far but I guess franchise burnout had set in and everyone was sick of Michael Bay’s overly long bore feats.

If this new movie follows suit from Bumblebee then enough time may have passed that audiences will be welcoming to another proper Transformers movie.

The sun visor/shield/whatever looks stupid - I don't see the creative reason behind it - but the rest looks great.

Instead of "Scourge," why not lean into the vehicle decepticon thing and go with Motormaster and the stunticons?

And is that Huffer in orange...?

Nice, never was a fan of G1 (grew up with the movies). But Bumblebee found the right balance with G1 designs and detailed looks.
Looking forward to this, hopefully its a lot more engaging than Bumblebee was.
