LAZARUS looks to be the next comic book property to get the television treatment as Amazon announced their plans to adapt the Image Comics series Thursday evening.

The report comes coupled with the announcement of two other sci-fi adaptations: Ringworld, the classic science fiction novel from Larry Niven, and Snow Crash, another classic novel by author Neal Stephenson. Deadline reports that the network is looking to "[fast-track] big-scope genre drama series in the mold of Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead."

As this is just an initial statement, little is known about the LAZARUS project. Series creators Greg Rucka (The Punisher, Wonder Woman) and artist Michael Lark (Gotham Central) will executive produce with Angela Cheng Caplan. Rucka will write for the streaming series.

LAZARUS is a sci-fi action series set within a dystopian future. The apocalyptic world sees 16 families dividing surviving territories for their control, with mafia-like deals, drama, and attacks. In order to quell any attempts at being overthrown, many familes have a Lazarus, a one-person soldier trained to defend their territories. The central character is a young Lazarus named Forever Carlyle, an adept killer who does not age.

No release date has been confirmed, but we will keep everyone posted with more news about LAZARUS and all other future comic adaptations. Stay tuned!

I love this comic but I realize it's EERILY similar to Into the Badlands in terms of similar concepts.

I wonder how that'll play out for the development of the show.
