Season 3 of The Boys has now come to an end, with an eventful finale that (somewhat predictably) set the stage for season 4 while delivering its share of shocking moments, including one main character death.
Following the twist ending of last week's penultimate episode, Butcher, Hughie and Soldier Boy set off to bring Homelander down for good, while MM and Starlight devise a scheme of their own as they attempt to ensure Soldier Boy doesn't go nuclear again and wipe out the entire city block (or worse). Frenchie and a now re-powered Kimiko also join the fray, and the gang gets another unlikely ally in the form of Queen Maeve.
Will their combined efforts be enough to defeat the maniacal leader of The Seven? It might have been if everything went according to plan.
After the big reveal that Homelander is actually Soldier Boy's biological son, it was generally assumed that the "patriotic" Supe would betray Butcher and join forces with his own flesh and blood. However, the ruthless Soldier Boy is still prepared to take Homelander down... until Billy realizes that Becca's son, Ryan, is also in the crosshairs.
Butcher then faces-off with Soldier Boy, while Maeve unleashes her full might on Homelander and almost manages to best him until he gouges her eye out! As the crew joins forces and attempts to incapacitate Soldier Boy with Frenchie's nerve gas, he begins to power-up, and Maeve seemingly sacrifices herself to prevent the loss of innocent life by charging him right through the window before he goes nova.
We later learn that Maeve survived, but is now de-powered after her exposure to Soldier Boy's beam. Black Noir isn't so lucky, though, as Homelander brutally murders his teammate by puching a hole right through him after learning that he knew Soldier Boy was his father all along.
All-in-all, a relatively happy ending for the good guys - aside from Butcher, who is told he's living on borrowed time after overdosing on V-24. Billy decides not to share the news with the others, as the team - which now officially includes Starlight Annie January - sets its sights on new Presidential candidate Victoria Neuman!
The season does conclude on a sinister note, however. After being heckled, Homelander kills a protestor in front of hundreds of people as a smile spreads across Ryan's face. It looks like the crew now has a mini-Homelander to contend with.
