Check Out The First Trailer For AMC's PREACHER

AMC debuted the very first trailer for Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg's adaptation of Garth Ennis' controversial comic series during tonight's extended episode of The Walking Dead, and you can watch it right here. Oh, and Cassidy (Joe Gilgun) does have an Irish accent!...

Based on the twisted and popular ‘90s comic book franchise of the same name, “Preacher,” created by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon, is the story of Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper) a conflicted Preacher in a small Texas town who is inhabited by a mysterious entity that allows him to develop a highly unconventional power. Jesse, his ex-girlfriend, Tulip (Ruth Negga), and an Irish vampire named Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun) embark on a journey to, literally, find God. The Sony Pictures Television and AMC Studios co-production was developed for television by Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg (“This Is the End,” “Superbad,” “Neighbors”) and showrunner Sam Catlin (“Breaking Bad”). The series is set to premiere mid-2016.

Preacher stars Dominic Cooper as Jesse Custer, Joseph Gilgun as Cassidy, Ian Colletti as Eugene “Arseface” Root, W. Earl Brown as Arseface’s father, Elizabeth Perkins as Vyla Quinncannon, Ruth Negga as Tulip, and Jamie Anne Allman and Derek Wilson as Betsy and Donny Schenck. Will the Saint of Killers make an appearance? We'll have to wait and see.

Looks great... but there definitely seems to be quite a few liberties taken with the story. Also, no shades for Cassidy?

It would've been better if you heard Seth Rogen's laugh at the end in a disturbing fashion.

Looks surprisingly good! But damn... I really need to finish reading the whole comic series. Anyone else rooting for an Arseface spin off show?

I can't wait to see the Saint of Killers! Anyone else wondering how they are going to pull of the John Wayne stuff with Jesse?

Looks beyond promising, as long as they stay true to the premise of the comic we are good to go!

Heck look at TWD they have veered off some but the show is still great show!

I've read the comic multiple times and it looks like they've deviated away from the comics a bit. Hopefully they haven't strayed too far.

Just seems a little...off, to me. Jesse should be a broken mess at this point in the story. I am aware that my absolute love for the comics means I will be among the hardest people to please. I'll definitely be giving it a chance though.

So what do my fellow Irishmen think of Cassidy's accent? It sounds like it's Munster based, I was expecting a proper inner city Dublin accent. He does sound Irish though, and that's the most important thing.

Not what I imagined it would be, but I'll give it a shot. Ennis is one of those writers that's near MMMG (Moore, Miller, Morrison, Gaiman) level. He had such creative work last decade. Hope he translates well.

CASS!!!!

I'm honestly just going to enjoy this season while we have it. I'll see it go downhill as long as AMC gives us an amazing first [season] as always.

I hope this isn't another Walking Dead where the show starts out good but becomes a boring melodrama.

I dig it. He doesn't seem as whiny as the comic version of Jesse. I'm glad they aren't spoiling all the mythology right away in the trailers.

I'm a huge fan of the comic, and I just wasn't wowed. It didn't seem off the wall enough to be Preacher. Like it's missing the edge of the comic. Also, Cooper didn't feel like Jesse here. He didn't have that confidence. Even at his weakest, Jesse didn't seem this broody. I don't know, it just kinda feels like they wanted to make Jesse cool here by having him be dark and mysterious, and that's not him. He's cool because he's the guy that's always sure that he's doing the right thing, and anyone that doesn't also have that conviction is a fool in his eyes. Jesse's mystery should come from how purely straight forward he is. It's disarmingly strange. I'm also surprised we didn't see any of the Word being used.

All that aside, I still have really high hopes for this show. Rogen is one of my favorite writers, so I've still got faith that he's made something worthwhile.

Holy hell what the [frick] is this garbage? This is brooding shitstorm resembles nothing of the Ennis' black humor. Ugh.

Exactly. Custer is more a modern day Western hero than some angsty, brooding priest. He doesn't even want to be a preacher in the comics but was forced by gunpoint.

Man you can't judge it by just that trailer. That's probably when he's a Preacher in Annville, which went for a couple of pages, so on TV you'd have to flesh it out a bit, make him a real character. I saw enough of Jesse in there. I'm kinda bummed about Cassidy and no shades though, but I guess it'd be hard for Gilgun to act with those on all the time.

Haven't read the comics but they always had an interesting premise.

Looking forward to this.

I do feel a little bit ambivalent about this show. On the one hand, Seth Rogen, Preacher, AMC, TV show. All good things. On the other hand, the casting seems slightly off. Cassidy sounds like a cartoon leprechaun. It's borderline racist, if you ask me. Cassidy was way cool in the comics. They shoulda cast @RorMachine.

Joins the chorus of people who've never read the comics, but think that this looks pretty good actually.
