Darren Aronofsky Also Considered To Direct Big Screen Adaptation Of Preacher?

It looks like that director Darren Aronofsky is a potential choice to helm a long in development big screen version of DC's comic book property the Preacher!

Darren Aronofsky is a wanted director right now in Hollywood. With the director's name being rumored to helm a Christopher Nolan-produced Superman reboot for 2012, it looks like that Columbia Pictures is also looking for Aronofsky to direct the big screen adaptation of Preacher, a long in development project that maybe now is finally one step closer of getting actually made.

Newsarama reports:

"A source speaking on the condition of anonymity tells Newsarama that Aronofsky is also being targeted to direct Columbia Pictures' big screen production of Preacher, based on the comic book series published by Vertigo, DC Comics’ Mature Readers imprint. DC of course is also the publishing home to the Man of Steel and a subsidiary of Warner Bros."

His new film Black Swan is getting a lot of great reviews and it's safe to say that every movie he has done were great in their own way. So, if this is true, then Aronofsky will have to decide what project will he direct. What do you think? Is he a good choice for this adaptation?

Hmmm I dunno. I would say Preacher's more towards his sensibilities. But if I were him i'd rather do Superman. Not just from a fans POV, but Supermans got more of a chance of being a blockbuster.

Darren Aronofsky has about as much compatibility with Preacher as Michael Bay does with an Oscar Bait film.

@Intruder: What didn't make sense? Much like Bay's style doesn't suit an Oscar Bait film, Aronofsky's style doesn't suit Preacher.

Johnny Depp for Jessie... Paul Bettany for Cassidy...and dare I say it...Hole herself Courtney Love(that is if she can be coherant to act again)

@Intruder: I'M high? How is a "stark, gritty" director in any way compatible for a series that is as absurd, over the top, and unapologetic as Preacher? Hence the Michael Bay/Oscar Bait film comparison.

I think he's a great choice for Preacher.

@Intruder:

"Ok,your making Preacher sound like a dark slapstick Comedy."

Except the slapstick, although it has its moments. I just don't see how people can associate "stark and grity" with Arseface.

"Who would you like to direct this?"

Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez are two names that immediately spring to mind.

@Intruder: But at the end of day, it's the equivalent of trying to pound a square peg into a round hole. Now if we're talking about adapting the Saint's backstory, then Aranofsky could work.

I really wish they would leave Preacher alone. It's great as a comic. No need to ef up the story with a movie.

I do actually get what marikina is saying. Preacher would have to be a bit more of a black comedy that anything Aronofsky has done in the past, but that doesn't mean he wouldn't be ABLE to do it. The Wrestler had some great moments of humor. But like Durtytalent, if I had to pick one thing for him in would be Sandman. I still think he would do a great Preacher too though. Do it Darren!

Anil@ Guy Pearce is cool, but somehow im thinking that Jesse needs someone more prettier guy, you know that boy next door face? But still he has to be little older now like Pearce is, but Pearce isnt very pretty.:)

Michael Fassbender as Cassidy! Bettany is too "clean" for this role!
Mike would be wild, vicious and gritty as Cassidy

Either you read my last Preacher response on Guy being Jesse or its just a major coincidence..

"Hell no to Guy Pearce and his acne scared face as Jesse. Jesse needs to be played by someone with a more wholesome look to him. A country boy with the guy next door good looks..."
