PREACHER Sets Up A "War In The Sun" With Carnage-Filled Season 3 Finale - SPOILERS

Last night's season finale of Preacher was about as bloodily bonkers as you'd expect, with several storylines wrapped up and new ones teased for season 4. We also said goodbye to some recurring characters.

Preacher wrapped-up its excellent third season with a strong finale last night which saw Jesse finally get some revenge on his Gran'ma and the man that killed his father... even if it meant he condemned his soul to Hell in the process. That may not be an issue in the long run, however, because The Saint of Killers blew Satan's brains bats out, seemingly leaving Hitler in charge of the underworld.

Elsewhere, Tulip manages to escape the bus to Hell with the help of a little divine intervention. Of course, she tells God to stuff it and heads off on her own to help Cassidy. As for everyone's favorite Irish vampire, poor Cass is forced to destroy a potential soul mate before watching most of his new fanged friends go up in smoke after Hoover betrays them.

Karma catches up to the sycophantic little shit very quickly though, when Starr casually murders him by exposing him to sunlight. This is quite big alteration from the source material, as Hoover sticks around until the final issue in Garth Ennis' comic series.

Speaking of which, it looks like the final shots are setting up one of the most popular comic arcs for next season. "War in the Sun" sees Jesse and Tulip arrive to Masada to rescue Cass, with a certain unkillable cowboy hot on their trail.

Finale was absolutely fantastic. I never read the comic so I never know when they stray from that material but what they end up with is just amazing. Easily my most anticipated show (along with Brokmire).

The majority of this season was pure filler. This storyline could have easily been done in like 3 episodes, but like last season it just dragged it out with weirdness. Very lazy writing overall.

@Nightmare - Disagree there. Last season sure, but this was all great stuff imo. The episodes that didn't really advance the story made sure to develop the characters and I never felt anything dragged.

@Nightmare - I respectfully disagree. Every episode had its purpose with tying the characters’ past hardships with their current choices. Every character now feels fully realized and lived in, dancing around each other in a very theatrical and engaging way. My attention has been captured 80% of the time. The only times where it dragged were the whole vampire training parts, which seemed a little unimaginative.

Great show. They need to cancel the Walking Dead and put the budget into this.

That was a great finale, capping off a great season. I continuously find myself grinning at the sheer madness of it all. Without a doubt, one of(if not the) quirkiest shows on television.
