Some New Details On The PREACHER TV Series

According to Bleeding Cool, although AMC has acquired North American broadcast rights for the show, the adaptation of Garth Ennis' controversial comic series will actually be a Sony Pictures Television production. They've also confirmed that Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg are on board.

Bleeding Cool report that the pilot order for the small screen adaptation of Garth Ennis’ and Steve Dillon‘s Preacher has been given by Sony Pictures Television studio, and not AMC as was previously reported -- although the network will be handling US broadcasting for the show, while not actually have any control over its development. Seth Rogen hinted (pretty strongly) that he would be involved in some way, and it seems that he and writing partner Evan Goldberg have indeed worked on the pitch for Sony Pictures along with Breaking Bad series writer Sam Caitlin. But that's not all: Bleeding Cool also reckon that Garth Ennis is very pleased, and feels that Goldberg and Rogen have "finally captured the tone" of the comic. According to the site the writer would be an active consultant if the series moves forward. More at the link below.

So, is a series based on the label Vertigo / DC Comics. That's for sure. Are they having the rights? Because if so, in the future we will see the logo of DC Comics in Preacher. And also see the logo of Sony Pictures TV. I have not read it yet this is another series in development joins the list of developments based on DC Comics publications (The Flash, Constantine, Gotham, Hourman, iZombie)

@edwardshiro - My understanding of Vertigo's contracts (per a conversation with Chris Roberson about iZombie) is that DC retains the reprint rights to the work they published more or less in perpetuity unless another deal is worked out, but that they surrender other-media rights a certain number of years after new content stops being published. DC/Vertigo probably don't have a stake in this, or at least not enough to control the direction it takes, at this point. I could be wrong, since obviously we don't know the ins and outs of this specific contract.

What do any of you know about Seth Rogens writing ability?

Wait till he actually does something, you unfounded haters.

@thewonderer, Seth Rogen was a writer for The Green Hornet and The Watch. He has also written for other projects.

Seth wrote Superbad which is one of my favorite comedies.

The real question is how are they going to find a thirty year old Michael Keaton and sufficient supply of taper leg pleated jeans?

Things you could do:

- let Rogen play John Wayne or Si Coltrane
- let Rogen write the screencplay
- let Rogen write the screenplay with Goldberg
- let them both produce

Things you can't do:

- let Franco play Jessie
- let Goldberg direct

Wonder who's gonna play the grandma ?

after watching The Worlds End (the most weirdest movie of the year) i can definitely say Edgar Wright would be the right man to direct the pilot.
He can get the balance right (between comedy and drama that is)

I agree with it not being Franco.

Ever since Deadwood I always thought Timothy Olyphant could play Jesse.

Please do not allow Set Rogen to EVER laugh on this series. His laugh is unbelievably annoying and I am never excited to see him in anything (as his acting ability is not great either). I sure hope they do not go the route they took with THE GREEN HORNET...

Seth Rogen is a pretty good writer. If he and Goldberg stick to the source material and he doesn't star in it (aside from maybe a cameo), it might turn out.

Plus they've got Sam Catlin who wrote "4 Days Out", "Fly", "Crawl Space" & "Half Measures" which are some of my favorite Breaking Bad episodes.

There's still hope...
