SPOILERS: THE WALKING DEAD Season 8 Images And Teaser Preview Rick Grimes' Final Battle With Negan

AMC has released a sneak peek at the upcoming season finale of The Walking Dead alongside some very cool new stills previewing the final battle between Rick Grimes' survivors and Negan's Saviors...

The Walking Dead may not have the devoted fan base it once did but ratings for the series remain relatively strong and with a new showrunner set to take charge of the action moving into season nine, there's a very good chance that the quality of the show will increase. Before we get to that, though, the finale airs on Sunday and AMC has today released a brand new batch of preview images from that.

As well as teasing a flashback to events which took place before or during the first season, we also get some very cool shots of the survivors preparing for battle and learn more about what's in store for the likes of Dwight and Maggie (who could meet her maker here given those recent contract issues).

To check out the full gallery of images and an action-packed teaser promo for the season eight finale of The Walking Dead, all you have to do it click on either one of the buttons below. Once you've done that, be sure to then let us know what you're expecting from the episode in the comments section.

Whoa! Is this a flashback scene to pre-apocalypse Rick (Andrew Lincoln) with Carl? The clothing would seem to suggest so.

Whoa, hang on a second! This is clearly a flashback to when Rick was a sheriff and Carl was just a little boy so perhaps it's this which helps him change his mind about how to deal with Negan.

Rick, Michonne, and Co. await the final conflict.

Rick and Michonne lead the charge in what looks like the final stand for the survivors as they look to confront Negan's Saviors and bring this violent "All Out War" to an end once and for all.

While most fans have assumed that this final battle would take place either at the Hilltop or Saviors' compound, it looks like we're actually getting a slightly more unique setting for this confrontation.

Fresh off her memorable turn in Black Panther, Danai Gurira's Michonne gets into a knife fight with one of the Saviors but it's fair to say that this guy is probably outgunned in this particular battle.

Maggie (Lauren Cohan) has been struggling to deal with dueling impulses of vengeance and morality while leading the Hilltop. What will she do if she has the chance to take out Negan?

Since Glenn's violent demise, Maggie has been intent on revenge and it's going to be very interesting seeing what happens if and when she finally comes face to face with Negan in the finale.

Alden (Callan McAuliffe) has slowly been working his way into Maggie’s good graces. Whom will he fight for in the finale?

Alden (Callan McAuliffe) has been working his way into Maggie's good graces in recent weeks but can he be trusted or will he end up betraying her and revealing his true allegiances to Negan?

Jesus (Tom Payne) gets his kicks in taking down a Savior that… looks a lot like Jesus.

We haven't seen a whole lot from Jesus recently so it's good to see that he'll get something to do in the finale as he pulls off a pretty awesome looking dropkick during a fight with one of the Saviors.

Morgan (Lennie James) will not only be appearing in The Walking Dead finale but the Fear the Walking Dead premiere that immediately follows it as well.

Morgan will not only have a role to play in The Walking Dead's finale but he'll also be appearing in Fear The Walking Dead's premiere as well as that show skips ahead in time when it returns to AMC.

Dwight (Austin Amelio) seems to be heading to “Easy Street” as he gets the same treatment Daryl got last year. (Fun Fact: EP Angela Kang says that the A on the sweatsuit stands for “a–hole.”)

Poor Dwight! After being found out by Negan, it looks like he's also heading down "Easy Street" for a while. Do you know what that" A" stands for, though? According to a producer, it's "A-Hole."

Armed and ready for battle.

More shots from the final battle here which will presumably take place at sunset, something which will make the battle even more atmospheric and fun to watch as Rick attempts to put down Negan.

Michonne always has it covered.

Michonne swaps here trademark Katana for a rifle here as she takes aim at an unknown threat. It's pretty interesting that we've seen pretty much nothing from the Saviors here, don't you think?

Siddiq (Avi Nash) was saved by Carl; now he will try to help Carl’s family win… and live.

Siddiq was saved by Carl so it's only fitting that he plays a large role in proceedings here. How important he'll wind up being to the series moving forward obviously remains to be seen, however.

Tara (Alanna Masterson) tried to kill Dwight until he saved her. Might she finally return the favor and save him back in the finale?

Dwight saved Tara's life and it's now up to her whether or not she chooses to return the favour during this final battle. Daryl clearly isn't keen on helping his old foe so he may be his only choice now.

The threat can come from anywhere… and everywhere.

STILL armed and ready for battle. The Walking Dead season 8 finale airs Sunday at 9 p.m. on AMC.

Rick once again leads the charge in these awesome shots but how many of the characters we see here will be left standing when the battle with Negan and his saviours reaches its conclusion?

Way to ruin a beautiful sunrise, zombie!!!

Well, that's one way to spoil a beautiful sunset! We don't know how much walkers will actually factor into the finale, especially as they've taken a backseat to the action over the past few years.

The extras, and now some of the recurring characters on this show look like they were pulled from the production crew. Its embarrassing. AMC is so god damn cheap.

Last episode was terrific, and some of the deviations in the source material have made me incredibly nervous about character's fate's for the first time in a while.

I really can't believe the writers made Carl write a LETTER to Negan talking like about world peace and some sh*t when that guy is stored to the nuts of crazy. How old was he? 5??? does he believe in Papa Noel too??
Doesn't he even remember that Negan has like 8 forced wives?? That he enslaves people? that he killed Glenn?
